Mechanical Engineer

BlueWave is hiring a Mechanical Engineer for an industrial infrastructure client in the Cape Canaveral, Florida area. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will design HVAC and facility mechanical systems while supporting projects from initial requirements through construction and installation. This role combines office-based engineering with regular field assessments and construction support.

Responsibilities

• Perform field walkdowns and assess existing mechanical systems.
• Gather project requirements and evaluate proposed system modifications.
• Develop HVAC and facility mechanical-system designs.
• Perform engineering calculations and equipment sizing.
• Select mechanical equipment based on project and operating requirements.
• Create and review mechanical drawings, schematics, one-line diagrams, and piping and instrumentation diagrams.
• Coordinate designs with structural, electrical, controls, and construction teams.
• Select vendors and support procurement and quotation activities.
• Provide field engineering during construction and equipment installation.
• Review installations for compliance with design intent.
• Resolve construction, commissioning, and installation issues.
• Support maintenance and upgrades to existing mechanical systems.

Requirements

• Degree in mechanical engineering or a comparable engineering background.
• At least four years of mechanical or HVAC engineering experience.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC system design and operation.
• Experience performing engineering calculations and selecting and sizing mechanical equipment.
• Ability to conduct field assessments and develop designs from project requirements.
• Experience supporting construction or equipment installation.
• Ability to read and develop mechanical drawings and technical documentation.
• Experience working directly with contractors and equipment vendors.
• Ability to independently manage engineering work with limited technical guidance.
• Willingness to travel approximately 15%.
• Professional Engineer license preferred but not required.
• Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, Excel, or Bluebeam preferred.
• Knowledge of ASHRAE standards and HVAC design practices preferred.
• Experience with industrial HVAC, mission-critical facilities, manufacturing facilities, central utility systems, or large-scale infrastructure preferred.
• Experience with building automation, commissioning, cleanroom systems, or energy modeling is beneficial.

Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire, onsite in the Cape Canaveral, Florida area; approximately 50 hours per week with about 15% travel.
