Job Title: Mechanical EngineerJob Description

The Mechanical Engineer supports mechanical design and integration activities for assigned assemblies and interfaces, working from system-level and component-level requirements. This role focuses on developing and maintaining high-quality CAD models and engineering drawings, executing engineering changes through established configuration control processes, and resolving build, test, and production issues using structured root cause and corrective action methods.

Responsibilities

  • Support mechanical design and integration tasks for assigned assemblies and interfaces based on system-level and component-level requirements.
  • Create and revise 3D CAD models and detailed 2D engineering drawings, ensuring documentation quality and adherence to applicable standards.
  • Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) practices to mechanical drawings in accordance with relevant standards.
  • Develop and maintain released documentation, including models, drawings, and associated engineering records.
  • Execute engineering changes through configuration control processes, including engineering change orders (ECOs) and configuration management procedures.
  • Participate in and support configuration control boards (CCB) or similar configuration management activities to ensure design integrity.
  • Provide sustaining engineering support for released hardware, including design updates, improvements, and issue resolution.
  • Investigate and resolve build, test, and production issues using structured root cause analysis and corrective action methodologies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure mechanical designs meet performance, manufacturability, and quality requirements.
  • Document analyses, design dispositions, and engineering changes clearly and accurately for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders, providing timely updates on design status, issues, and resolutions.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of mechanical design experience in an industrial, automotive, aerospace, or defense environment.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD tools, with strong preference for Creo, including creation and modification of complex models.
  • Experience in creating and maintaining detailed 2D engineering drawings and released documentation.
  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5, with demonstrated ability to interpret and apply GD&T on mechanical drawings.
  • Ability to execute engineering changes through formal configuration control processes.
  • Experience supporting mechanical design and platform integration activities, as well as sustaining engineering for released hardware.
  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to clearly document analyses, dispositions, and engineering changes.
  • Strong verbal communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with engineering and production teams.
  • Ability to perform structured root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to resolve build, test, and production issues.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Familiarity with configuration management practices, including participation in configuration control boards (CCBs) and processing engineering change orders (ECOs).
  • Experience providing sustaining engineering support for existing mechanical hardware throughout its lifecycle.
  • Comfort working from system-level and component-level requirements to develop robust mechanical solutions.
  • Ability to balance design quality, manufacturability, and schedule in a fast-paced engineering environment.

Work Environment

This role follows a 9/80 work schedule, providing a compressed workweek with every other Friday typically available as a non-working day, subject to team and project needs. The position operates in a hybrid setting, with three days per week on-site, typically Tuesday through Thursday, and remote work on other days as appropriate. The work environment combines office-based design activities with close collaboration with engineering, manufacturing, and test teams, using modern 3D CAD tools such as Creo and standard engineering documentation systems.
