Description
Role Overview: We are looking for a driven Mechanical Engineer to perform process design, development, and qualification/testing tasks on complex mechanical hardware including precision mechanisms and electro-mechanical hardware in a program team environment.
Schedule: 9/80 (Work 80 hours across 9 days out of 14, with every other Friday off)
Workstyle: High flexibility to own larger aspects of the system as the program evolves, with hands-on lab work and direct hardware interaction.
Key Responsibilities:
Full Lifecycle Support: Provide program support and technical leadership over requirements definition, concept generation, material selection, trade studies, design sensitivity/optimization studies, preliminary/final design, documentation, assembly/integration, and testing.
CAD & Documentation: Perform a wide range of CAD design assignments (editing models/drawings based on engineering notes), ensure documentation complies with standards, and prepare accurate drawings and schematics with proper tolerances and dimensions (with oversight from senior designers).
Prototyping & Testing: Prototype, integrate, and test component parts and assemblies; develop test plans and procedures for mechanical subsystems; and perform test and evaluation of systems.
Technical Communication & Leadership: Provide formal and informally regular communication and briefings to internal/external stakeholders and customer representatives. Direct designers, technicians, and operators as part of a design team.
Design Reviews & Field Support: Participate in peer reviews, PDRs, CDRs, product change review meetings, and support field testing/demonstration efforts as a mechanical engineering field representative (alongside other duties as assigned).
Process Adherence: Take full ownership of tasking with limited supervision and adhere strictly to company processes for product development, configuration management, and purchasing.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 6 years of prior relevant experience, OR
Graduate Degree with a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience, OR
In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
Security Clearance & Polygraph: Active Top Secret or Top Secret/SCI clearance is required (active within the last two years will be considered), alongside a favorable polygraph.
Preferred Additional Skills:
Presentation & Leadership: Comfortable collecting and presenting complex technical concepts to program leadership.
Design Expertise: Experience in designing or developing precision mechanisms, mechatronic systems, and/or packaging modules and electronics while factoring in thermal/structural loading and optimizing size, weight, and power (SWaP).
Software & Standards: Proficiency in CAD tools (such as Creo) and understanding of ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) standards.
Advanced Manufacturing: Experience in additive manufacturing, part optimization, and design for manufacture and assembly (DFMA).
Specialized Technologies: Experience working with actuators, custom gear trains, electro-optical systems, materials testing, and manufacturing processes.
