Nuclear Component Analysis Mechanical Engineer
(ASME Section III / ANSYS)
Position Summary
The Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) Component Engineering organization develops technical requirements and design parameters for a modular advanced light water reactor (ALWR) NSSS. This role performs design and stress analyses of pressure vessels, reactor vessel internals, and/or primary equipment supports in accordance with ASME BPVC Section III and applicable regulatory requirements. Work is performed under ASME NQA-1 quality assurance requirements and relevant U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) guidelines.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Apply strong working knowledge of engineering discipline principles and their practical application, including applicable nuclear industry codes, standards, and regulations.
- Perform and document component evaluations to ASME BPVC Section III, including (but not limited to):
- Pressure and mechanical/thermal loading analysis
- Primary stress
- Primary + secondary stress intensity range
- Fatigue evaluations
- Use evaluation results to optimize component design.
- Perform advanced finite element analyses using ANSYS; utilize CAD tools as needed.
- Interpret engineering scope and project requirements and execute analysis plans accordingly.
- Acquire, maintain, and develop required training qualifications.
- Provide guidance and mentoring to other staff in NSSS Component Analysis.
- Collaborate with other disciplines to coordinate design activities and resolve technical issues.
- Develop working knowledge of related engineering fields to support multi-disciplinary team execution.
- Provide technical direction to less experienced engineers; serve as a technical lead for the NSSS Component Analysis Group.
- Maintain responsibility for technical results, engineering oversight, and quality of deliverables.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Skills, Qualifications & Abilities
Education
- B.S. in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering preferred) from a 4-year ABET-accredited college or university (required).
- Advanced degree (preferred).
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) (preferred).
Experience
- 10+ years of full-time relevant engineering experience (required).
- Extensive experience using ANSYS to perform stress analysis in accordance with ASME BPVC Section III, Subsections NB, NG, and/or NF (required).
Desired / Additional Experience
- Seismic and/or dynamic analysis
- Programming/scripting (e.g., ANSYS APDL, MATLAB, Python)
Industry / Regulatory Requirement
- Must be eligible to work under DOE 10 CFR Part 810.
Physical Demands
- Ability to communicate clearly via phone, in-person interaction, and computer use.
- Ability to learn new concepts quickly and apply them accurately in a fast-evolving environment.
- Ability to sit/stand/walk/bend frequently; use hands for office equipment; reach with hands/arms.
- Ability to travel locally and nationally using common transportation methods.
