Description

Cullerton Group has a new opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer 2 (Diesel Engine Performance Engineer). The work will be done onsite in Lafayette, Indiana. This is a long-term position that can lead to permanent employment with our client. Compensation is up to $38/hour + full benefits (vision, dental, health insurance, 401k, and holiday pay).
Job Summary
Cullerton Group is seeking a Mechanical Engineer 2 to support diesel engine performance and factory testing operations. This role will focus on analyzing engine performance data, supporting technical inquiries, assisting with order processing and data management, and troubleshooting engine test issues. The ideal candidate will have a strong engineering background, excellent analytical skills, and an interest in diesel engine systems and performance optimization. This position offers valuable exposure to engine testing, technical support, and engineering operations within a manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Research, design, develop, and evaluate mechanical systems, engines, and related equipment.
• Analyze technical data, specifications, and customer requirements to support engineering projects and product applications.
• Investigate equipment and engine performance issues, diagnose root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
• Support factory hot test operations by troubleshooting engine performance concerns and improving test quality and efficiency.
• Maintain engineering data, support technical sales inquiries, and assist with order processing and documentation activities.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related engineering discipline.
• 2–4 years of engineering experience (internship experience may be considered).
• Strong data analysis, communication, organizational, and time management skills.
• Basic understanding of diesel engine operation and troubleshooting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, MATLAB, Office 365, and other engineering-related software tools.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, schematics, and engineering documentation.
• Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
• Willingness to work onsite full-time in Lafayette, Indiana.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience supporting engine testing, performance analysis, or manufacturing operations.
• Advanced computer skills including VBA/Macro development, SQL, Crystal Reports, or Power BI.
• Understanding of diesel engine product configuration and application support processes.
• Strong initiative and ability to work independently.
• Experience with heavy equipment, diesel engines, or manufacturing environments preferred.
