We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support the
development and validation of cooling systems for construction, mining, power generation, marine, locomotive, and electrification applications. The engineer will use
1-D system simulation and 3-D Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to support cooling system sizing, component selection, airflow analysis, and thermal performance validation. This role will collaborate closely with design, system, and test engineers to develop validated solutions and resolve cooling-related technical issues.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct application-specific cooling system analysis using 1-D and 3-D simulation tools.
- Develop cooling system layouts and perform component selection, sizing, and optimization of air and water systems.
- Build and execute CFD models to evaluate cooling components, airflow through cooling packages, and underhood thermal performance.
- Correlate simulation results with physical testing and work with test engineers to validate analytical models.
- Investigate cooling-related performance issues, determine root causes, recommend design improvements, and improve simulation methods and processes.
Required Qualifications- Bachelors degree in Engineering; Mechanical, Agricultural, Aerospace Engineering, or a similar discipline preferred.
- 2+ years of relevant engineering experience with a Bachelors degree, or 1+ year with a Masters degree.
- At least 1 year of experience focused on cooling system performance for product development, including 1-D and CFD system simulation experience.
- Strong thermo-sciences background, including fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and project-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Preferred Qualifications- Masters or Doctorate degree in Mechanical, Agricultural, or Aerospace Engineering.
- 2+ years of experience with Fluent, 1-D analysis tools such as GT-Suite, and Creo.
- Experience with CFD tools such as ANSYS Fluent, STAR-CCM+, or OpenFOAM.
- Experience with GT-Suite, meshing tools such as ANSA or ANSYS Workbench/SpaceClaim, and CAD tools such as Creo.
- Programming experience with Python, C++, or Java.
- Knowledge of diesel engines, engine/powertrain cooling, lubrication systems, electrification, or battery-electric systems.
