Position Summary
The Mechanical Designer is responsible for the design and development of mechanical components, assemblies, and subsystems for professional-grade cordless, pneumatic, and electric power tools. Working within cross-functional New Product Development (NPD) teams, this role leads the design of mechanisms, gear trains, housings, and electromechanical integrations from concept through production release.
The successful candidate combines strong CAD expertise with practical engineering knowledge and a deep understanding of manufacturing processes to deliver innovative, reliable, and cost-effective product solutions. This role requires significant ownership of design decisions, collaboration across global teams, and direct engagement with suppliers and manufacturing partners
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and product subsystems using Creo or similar 3D CAD tools.
Create and maintain engineering drawings, BOMs, and product documentation.
Lead design activities for drivetrains, gear systems, mechanisms, housings, and structural components.
Apply GD&T, tolerance analysis, DFM, and DFA principles to ensure robust product designs.
Support prototype builds, product validation, issue resolution, and production launches.
Collaborate with Product Management, Manufacturing, Quality, Sourcing, and suppliers to optimize performance, cost, reliability, and manufacturability.
Participate in design reviews, root cause investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Support engineering change management and product lifecycle activities.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, or related discipline.
5-10 years of experience designing mechanical or electromechanical products.
Proficiency with Creo, SolidWorks, NX, CATIA, or equivalent CAD systems.
Strong knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, and engineering drawing standards.
Experience designing injection-molded plastics, castings, machined components, and sheet metal parts.
Understanding of mechanical systems, gears, bearings, motors, and mechanisms.
Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in power tools, industrial equipment, automotive, or related industries.
Knowledge of planetary gearing, impact mechanisms, clutches, and power transmission systems.
Experience with Windchill or similar PLM systems.
Familiarity with FMEA, DVP&R, reliability testing, and root cause analysis.
