Mechanical Designer – Piping SR 3

Location: Bucks, AL

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Designer – Piping SR 3 to support the design and execution of complex retrofit, environmental, and new generation projects within the power generation and heavy industrial sectors. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing advanced piping and equipment designs, leading multi-discipline design efforts, and ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards. This role is suited for a self-starter with significant technical expertise and leadership capabilities, who thrives in a fast-paced, multi-project environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver 3D piping and equipment designs for new construction, retrofit, and environmental projects.

  • Produce 2D orthographic and isometric drawings, P&IDs, pipe support designs, and 3D models.

  • Lead multi-discipline technical teams, coordinating with engineers and designers across disciplines.

  • Gather field data to support the development of deliverables.

  • Prepare material take-offs, component sizing, and piping/valve selection.

  • Review and develop general arrangement drawings and ensure constructability of designs.

  • Provide oversight for construction support activities, including reviewing design packages and responding to field inquiries.

  • Apply knowledge of codes, standards, and piping construction practices to ensure safety and compliance.

  • Perform drawing/document checks for accuracy and completeness.

  • Manage concurrent large-scale projects with efficiency, ensuring deadlines and deliverables are met.

Required Qualifications & Skills

Education & Experience

  • 20+ years of related experience in mechanical piping design within power generation, utilities, or heavy industrial facilities.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field preferred (equivalent experience considered).

Technical Expertise

  • Proficiency in 3D modeling tools for piping system layout and design.

  • AutoPLANT and/or AVEVA design tool experience strongly desired.

  • Demonstrated technical background in piping construction practices, pipe/material selection, and valve selection.

  • Extensive experience in producing and reviewing 2D/3D drawings, P&IDs, and equipment models.

  • Knowledge of piping construction codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.

  • Strong background in general arrangement development, material take-offs, and construction support.
