Job Summary:
A Mechanical Designer specializing as a P&ID Developer with 5 to 10 years of experience responsible for creating, updating, and maintaining Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) to support the safe and efficient operation of industrial processes. This role involves close collaboration with engineering teams to ensure designs meet specifications and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities:
- Create and update P&IDs using industry-standard software such as AutoCAD to represent piping, equipment, and instrumentation layouts.
- Collaborate with mechanical and process engineers to understand design requirements and ensure P&IDs meet specifications.
- Generate detailed documentation including equipment symbols, instrument details, piping layouts, control loops, and asset naming/numbering.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, industry standards, and project-specific requirements.
- Assist in selecting appropriate piping materials, valves, instruments, and components based on design needs.
- Manage changes to P&IDs by documenting revisions and communicating updates to stakeholders.
- Review and validate P&IDs for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project goals and safety guidelines.
- Create as-built P&IDs reflecting actual system configurations after construction or modifications, including field walkdowns for quality control.
- Communicate design concepts and modifications clearly to team members and stakeholders.
- Provide training and support to junior team members and drafters in P&ID development.
Required Skills & Certifications:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, mechanical design, or related field.
- 5 to 10 years of mechanical design experience focused on P&ID development for industrial processes.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and P&ID software tools.
- Strong knowledge of industrial processes, equipment, instrumentation, and safety regulations.
- Experience with P&ID development and modification.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality P&IDs.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- Experience working in high-paced team environments.
- Previous involvement in fieldwork and onsite project support.
- Training or mentoring experience for less experienced designers or drafters.
Special Considerations:
- Must be able to work onsite and perform field walkdowns as required.
- Ability to work effectively in a high-paced team environment.
