The Mechanical Designer also interfaces with suppliers and provides hands-on support to manufacturing and assembly operations to ensure high-quality, cost-effective, and manufacturable solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Own component modification activities, including review and implementation of proposed cost reduction modifications.
  • Review sourcing and supplier quotes to evaluate cost reduction ideas, cost impact, and manufacturability limits.
  • Develop cost Pareto models to identify and prioritize high-impact cost reduction opportunities.
  • Perform mechanical design of hardware, with a focus on gas turbine components and related systems.
  • Create and refine 3D models and detailed drawings, ensuring accurate model and drawing definition.
  • Generate and maintain product lifecycle management (PLM) bills of materials (BoMs) and change instructions.
  • Coordinate hardware procurement and support manufacturing and assembly processes for modified components.
  • Collaborate with PDE drafting, sourcing, AME manufacturing, aero engineers, heat transfer specialists, MPE materials, repair engineering, and value engineering teams.
  • Interface directly with suppliers to review design concepts, cost reduction proposals, and manufacturing capabilities.
  • Provide shop floor support by dispositioning non-conformances and assisting with production-related issues.
  • Support supplier qualification processes and review supplier deviation requests (SDRs).
  • Track modified parts through final assembly and into fleet launch to ensure successful implementation and performance.
