Mechanical Designer

Talon Hiring Solutions has a client in the Anniston, AL area that is looking for a detail-oriented Mechanical Designer / CAD Designer to join the team. This position will be responsible for creating detailed drawings that communicate the design and method of assembly for a variety of machinery and electrical/mechanical devices. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with machine design, sheet metal, weldments, assemblies, and 3D CAD design, particularly SolidWorks.

What You'll Do

• Create detailed 2D and 3D drawings for machinery and mechanical/electrical devices using AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
• Develop machine designs, including sheet metal, weldments, assemblies, hydronic piping, and circulation modules.
• Apply standard drafting practices and mechanical formulas to develop accurate design specifications and components.
• Create, maintain, and store drawings within automated manufacturing systems.
• Develop and input Bills of Materials (BOMs) for manufacturing, project completion, and inventory purposes.
• Prepare design variations and communicate design concepts to colleagues, customers, and manufacturing partners.
• Read and use measuring devices, including tape measures, rulers, and calipers.
• Work closely with internal teams and manufacturing to troubleshoot design and production issues.
• Maintain accurate documentation and a clean, safe work environment.
• Utilize standard business software, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Support additional projects and responsibilities as needed.

What You'll Bring

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum of 2 years of formal drafting training or equivalent experience.
• Experience with machine design drafting, sheet metal design, weldments, and assemblies.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
• Strong understanding of standard drafting practices and mechanical design principles.
• Ability to understand and apply mechanical formulas when developing designs.
• Experience with hydronic piping and circulation module design is a plus.
• Experience with electrical control components and electrical drawings is a plus.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to read and interpret measurements using tape measures, rulers, and calipers.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with colleagues, customers, and manufacturers.
• A valid driver's license and ability to operate an automobile.
