About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to support a 6-month contract assignment with the potential to transition into a permanent full-time role.

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer with 2 3 years of mechanical design or product development experience who enjoys hands-on engineering, prototyping, testing, and building physical products.

The successful candidate will work closely with a Principal Design Engineer to build, maintain, and improve commercial demonstration systems used by Sales and Commercial teams. This role combines mechanical design and product development with hands-on assembly, troubleshooting, testing, inventory management, and operational support.

Experience in the medical device industry or another regulated product development environment is strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Principal Design Engineer to assemble, maintain, and improve commercial demonstration kits and systems.
  • Support the design, fabrication, testing, and refinement of mechanical components and assemblies.
  • Ensure demonstration systems are fully functional, organized, and ready for deployment to commercial teams.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues and implement design improvements to improve reliability and usability.
  • Assist with prototyping, validation testing, and other product development activities.
  • Create and maintain engineering documentation, assembly instructions, and bills of materials (BOMs).
  • Manage inventory of demonstration components, replacement parts, and supplies.
  • Coordinate packing, shipment preparation, and logistics for demonstration equipment.
  • Maintain an organized and efficient workspace for assembly, testing, and storage.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Product Management, and Commercial teams to support product demonstrations and customer engagements.
  • Contribute to ongoing product and process improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 2+ years of engineering experience, preferably in mechanical design, product design, or design engineering.
  • Experience using CAD software; SolidWorks experience is preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience building, assembling, and testing mechanical systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues and identify practical design improvements.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the medical device industry.
  • Experience supporting prototypes, demonstration systems, or low-volume assemblies.
  • Familiarity with engineering documentation, design controls, and regulated product development environments.
  • Experience with BOMs, inventory management, and component or equipment logistics.
  • Experience working in a lab, workshop, prototype, or product development environment.

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer who enjoys balancing mechanical design work with building, testing, troubleshooting, and improving physical products. This person should be comfortable working both at a desk and in a lab or workshop environment and take pride in ensuring products and demonstration systems are always functional and ready for use.

Why This Opportunity?

This is a great opportunity for an early-career Mechanical Engineer to gain hands-on experience in:

  • Mechanical and product design
  • Prototyping and testing
  • Medical device product development
  • Commercial demonstration systems
  • Cross-functional engineering collaboration

You will work closely with senior engineering leadership while contributing directly to products and systems used to support customer and commercial demonstrations.

Interested candidates with a strong mechanical design background and hands-on product development experience are encouraged to apply.
