About the OpportunityOur firm is partnering with a well established manufacturing company to identify a Mechanical Designer to join their team. This role focuses on the design and development of mechanical products and assemblies used in industrial applications. This is a hands on position supporting products from prototype through manufacturing readiness, ideal for someone who understands how products are built, tested, and refined in a real world environment.
Key Responsibilities- Support development of new and existing products from prototype to manufacturing readiness
- Design and refine mechanical assemblies and components
- Perform tolerancing and stack up analysis
- Design components to withstand real world loads and usage conditions
- Build, test, and iterate on prototypes
- Maintain design standards and documentation
- Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors
MUST HAVE REQUIREMENTSCandidates must meet all of the followingExperience and Background- 3+ years of hands on mechanical design experience
- Experience working with assemblies and real world products
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
Core Technical Skills- Strong understanding of mechanical design fundamentals
- Experience with tolerancing and stack ups
- Experience designing for load and failure prevention
Manufacturing Knowledge- Experience with machining, casting, and molding processes
- Strong understanding of DFM Design for Manufacturing and DFA Design for Assembly
Tools and Systems- Advanced proficiency in Autodesk Inventor
- Experience with Autodesk Vault
- Strong Excel skills for BOMs and tracking
Practical Engineering Ability- Hands on prototype development and testing
- Ability to troubleshoot and refine designs
- Experience designing physical products not just CAD models
STRONGLY PREFERRED- Experience with gear systems including spur gears
- Experience with high load or high torque applications
- Understanding of gear ratios and failure modes
- Experience integrating motors, switches, and wiring
- Experience with AC universal motors
- Exposure to product certification processes such as UL or CSA Group
NICE TO HAVE: - Cutting tool design experience
- Experience in railroad or heavy industrial tools
- Vendor sourcing and quoting experience
- Experience working in a small team environment
