Description Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer Level 4 for the development and ongoing support of new and existing designs used in surface ship and submarine propulsion and power generation systems for the US Navy based out of Sunnyvale, CA. The prospective candidate will work with a group of incredible people with backgrounds in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerothermal, Acoustics, Structural and Systems Engineers. The prospective candidate researches, develops, designs, and test components, equipment, and systems. What Youll get to do: • Design of propulsion and power generation hardware using solid modeling tools. • Select and evaluate materials suitable for underwater systems. • Participate in the resolution of technical and complex issues related to hardware. • Participate in the generation and revision of engineering drawings, reports, and procedures. • Interface directly with customer and management to status activities. • Coordinate planning and scheduling of major activities. • Occasional domestic travel will be required. This position requires the candidate to be full time on-site Basic Qualifications for Mechanical Design Engineer Level 4: • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 8 years related experience; or Masters degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 6 years related experience. or PhD in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 3 years related experience. • Demonstrated experience with task planning and execution to meet schedule requirements. • Ability to work independently on projects with minimal lead or management oversight. • US citizenship required. • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret Clearance. Preferred Qualifications: • Experience with CAD modeling (NX, CREO, SolidWorks, or equivalent) • Experience in ASME Y14.5 and ASME Y14.100 Dimensioning, Tolerancing, and Engineering Drawing Practices • Experience in developing design concepts, performing trade studies, and conducting evaluations and analyses • Strong background in machine design, strength of materials, and materials technology • Experience in executing projects in cross-functional matrix organization with other engineering disciplines • Experience in technical presentation and interfacing with customers • Experience in working with vendors and suppliers • Willing to learn Acoustic Analysis, Structural Analysis, and/or Electromagnetic Design • An active DOD Secret clearance
