Mechanical Assembler

StaffBuffalo is partnering with an established advanced manufacturing and engineering organization in Tonawanda, NY to hire a Mechanical Assembler, offering $23.00–$30.00 per hour, depending on experience. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced mechanical or electromechanical professional who takes pride in craftsmanship, enjoys solving problems, and wants to build sophisticated custom equipment used across a variety of technical industries.

As the Mechanical Assembler, you will work alongside a skilled manufacturing team to assemble custom machinery according to engineering drawings, prints, specifications, and schematics. You'll use your mechanical and electrical knowledge to help build high-quality equipment, troubleshoot assembly challenges, contribute ideas for improving processes, and support machine installations at customer locations. Rather than performing repetitive production assembly, you'll have the opportunity to work with customized equipment and projects that require technical aptitude, attention to detail, and problem-solving.

This is a full-time, onsite position in Tonawanda, NY, with some travel required for customer equipment installations and company-sponsored training.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble and build custom machinery according to engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and established quality requirements.
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, pneumatic schematics, and electrical schematics throughout the machine-building process.
  • Assist with the installation and setup of completed machinery at customer locations, including occasional travel as required.
  • Collaborate with machinists, engineers, technicians, and other manufacturing team members to complete projects accurately and on schedule.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical assembly issues and identify practical solutions to support successful machine builds.
  • Identify opportunities to improve existing assembly methods, workflows, quality, and overall manufacturing efficiency.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, including Lean and Six Sigma activities, while following established safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of mechanical and/or electrical manufacturing experience required.
  • High school diploma or GED required; trade school, technical training, or additional education preferred.
  • Mechanical and/or electrical assembly experience within a manufacturing, machinery, automation, industrial equipment, or similar environment.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, mechanical drawings, pneumatic schematics, and electrical schematics.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with practical troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Basic math and computer skills; experience with Microsoft Office programs preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to producing quality work.
  • Organized, dependable, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
  • High degree of ownership, initiative, and willingness to learn new skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as needed for customer installations and company-sponsored training.
