    Description

POSITION OPENING – Mechanical Application Engineer

    Supervisor: Director, Industrial Value Stream
    FLSA Classification: Exempt/Salaried
    Department: IVS

    The Challenge:

As a Mechanical Applications Engineer, you'll work directly with manufacturers across aerospace, defense, power generation, automotive, and other industrial markets to understand their manufacturing process and develop custom abrasive blasting solutions. Every project is different. One day you may be evaluating an aerospace component requiring a precise surface finish, while the next, you're designing a blast system capable of processing thousands of steel fabrications per day.

This is a highly collaborative role that combines mechanical engineering, manufacturing, customer interaction, and commercial thinking to identify what's limiting productivity, quality, safety, or cost, and develop engineered solutions that solve those problems.

If you enjoy understanding how things are made, solving complex industrial problems, and seeing your solutions built into real manufacturing facilities, we'd love to talk.

    Responsibilities
    • Meet with customers and distributors to understand manufacturing processes and identify the real problem that needs to be solved.
    • Evaluate customer requirements including production rates, part geometry, surface preparation requirements, plant constraints, and operating costs.
    • Develop engineered solutions using Clemco's portfolio of manual and automated abrasive blasting equipment.
    • Prepare AutoCAD equipment layouts, technical proposals, and project cost estimates.
    • Work closely with Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Project Management throughout the opportunity lifecycle.
    • Present technical recommendations to customers and explain the value behind proposed solutions.
    • Balance customer requirements with standardized and engineered-to-order product offerings to improve profitability, quality, and lead time.
    • Identify opportunities to standardize solutions, improve estimating tools, and strengthen our technical knowledge base.
    • Occasionally visit customer facilities (approximately 25% travel) to gather information, support equipment selection, and participate in project reviews.

    What Success Looks Like
    Successful people in this role:
    • Think like a manufacturing engineer, not just a design engineer.
    • Ask "Why?"
    • Enjoy solving new problems every day.
    • Can communicate equally well with plant managers, engineers, operators, and executives.
    • Continuously improve the way work gets done.

    Why this Role is Different
Instead, you'll work at the intersection of engineering, manufacturing, and customer success—helping customers solve complex production challenges while shaping the future direction of Clemco's products and solutions.
You'll have the opportunity to influence:
    • Product design
    • Future equipment development
    • Estimating tools
    • Sales strategy
    • Manufacturing efficiency
    • Customer success
If you enjoy both engineering and working directly with customers, this role offers a unique opportunity to make an impact across the business.

    Job Qualifications:

    • Experience interpreting customer specifications and manufacturing requirements
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to organize multiple opportunities while maintaining attention to detail
