GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Performs responsible and specialized skilled mechanical work to school system buses and a variety of automotive, construction and specialized equipment. Work includes diagnosing and performing minor and major repairs, performing preventive maintenance, metal fabrication and machine work to repair and fabricate parts and equipment. The employee also senates in a lead worker role and provides guidance, advice and coaching to lower level equipment mechanics. This higher level Equipment Mechanic is distinguished by the advanced experience and knowledge requirements of the job and the variety and complexity of work performed, and the accountability that certain routine and recurring tasks are completed. The work requires operation of various test equipment and hand tools in order to support the work activities. The employee also serves as a skilled mechanic performing work independently and without guidance. Work includes completing pertinent maintenance records, ordering parts and advising departmental employees on activities. The employee is subject to hazards associated with mechanical repairs including working in both inside and outside environments, and exposure to various hazards such as loud noises, vibration, moving mechanical parts, electrical current, chemicals, fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, and oils. Work is performed under regular supervision. The employee receives assignments and instructions from the supervisor and is evaluated by observation and the quality and quantity of the work performed.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
Possession of a valid North Carolina commercial driver''s license, Class A with P/S/N Endorsements.
Possession of a valid North Carolina safety and OBD II Inspection license.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Must be able to perform heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally; and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently; and/or up to 20 pound of force constantly to move objects.
Must possess the visual acuity to operate machines and equipment including close inspection of moving and small parts, using measurement devices, assembly, and fabrication of parts, and to maintain records.
