Mechanic Apprentice - Shop Hand

Job Summary

We are seeking a dependable, mechanically inclined Shop Hand / Mechanic Apprentice to support daily shop operations while learning a skilled trade. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for someone who enjoys working with their hands, wants to develop mechanical skills, and is looking for a long-term career with growth potential.

No extensive mechanical experience is required. We are willing to train the right person who demonstrates a strong work ethic, reliable attendance, and a willingness to learn. In addition to general shop duties, the selected candidate will have the opportunity to learn radiator, cooling system, and mechanical repair skills while working alongside experienced technicians.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Complete work assignments as directed by the Lead Person
• Follow instructions and complete tasks efficiently and safely
• Assist with daily shop operations and production activities
• Operate forklifts and other shop equipment as required
• Load and unload trucks, materials, and equipment
• Move parts and materials throughout the facility
• Assist with expediting customer orders and parts deliveries
• Perform general shop labor and support functions
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
• Perform building and facility maintenance, including sweeping, mopping, and general cleanup
• Complete timesheets and required paperwork accurately and legibly
• Communicate job-related issues, delays, or concerns to supervisors
• Greet and assist customers in a professional and courteous manner when needed
• Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and regulations
• Adhere to all company rules and expectations
• Perform other duties as assigned

Mechanic Apprentice Training Opportunities

• Assist experienced technicians with radiator, cooling system, and mechanical repair work
• Learn to remove, disassemble, clean, inspect, repair, and reassemble radiators and related components
• Assist with pressure testing, leak detection, and quality inspections
• Learn the safe use of hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment
• Prepare parts and materials for repair and fabrication work
• Assist with basic mechanical troubleshooting and repairs under supervision
• Learn preventative maintenance and repair procedures
• Observe and assist with welding, soldering, brazing, and fabrication processes as training allows
• Maintain tools, equipment, and workstations in proper working condition
• Gradually take on additional mechanical responsibilities as skills and experience develop

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Valid Louisiana Driver's License required
• Ability to communicate effectively in English
• Ability to follow instructions and work independently
• Mechanically inclined and comfortable working with tools
• Interested in learning a skilled mechanical trade
• Forklift experience is a plus
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly
• Physically capable of performing strenuous work in an industrial environment
• Dependable with excellent attendance and punctuality
• Strong work ethic and positive attitude
• Previous shop, warehouse, industrial, automotive, diesel, maintenance, welding, equipment, or mechanical experience is a plus, but not required
• Reliable transportation to and from work

Working Conditions

• Exposure to dust, fumes, heat, and elevated noise levels
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying materials
• Indoor and outdoor work as required
• Physically demanding industrial shop environment

Pay & Growth

Starting Pay: $12.00 - $15.00 per hour, depending on experience and mechanical knowledge.
