    Job Title: Meat Prepper I
    Location: Vernon, CA
    Duration: Contract Duration: Temporary-to-hire; conversion to permanent employment after 30 days
    Shift: Schedule: Training period (first 2 weeks) on 1st shift, 6:00 AM 2:30 PM; regular schedule thereafter on 2nd shift, 2:30 PM 11:00 PM.


    Job Summary
    Our client, a leading company in the food distribution and meat processing industry, is seeking experienced Meat Cutters for their Vernon, CA facility. This is a temporary-to-hire position with 10 openings available. Per union contract terms, successful candidates will be converted to permanent employment after 30 days.

    Key Responsibilities
    - Cut, trim, slice, section, and weigh meats for custom orders and standard inventory
    - Cut meat accurately to trim and yield specifications using knives, cleavers, meat saws, bandsaws, and related equipment
    - Inspect meat products for defects, bruises, blemishes, and excess fat, removing as needed
    - Clean, store, and maintain knives, scales, and other equipment
    - Obtain and distribute specified meat products
    - Separate meats and byproducts according to established procedures
    - Record data for cutting yield tests
    - Ensure compliance with product labeling and safety standards
    - Maintain compliance with U.S.D.A. guidelines throughout all processes

    Required Qualifications
    - 0-3 years of relevant experience in meat cutting or processing
    - Proficiency with knives, cleavers, meat saws, and bandsaws
    - Ability to inspect products for defects and spoilage
    - Basic mathematical skills, including calculations and conversions
    - Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
    - Working knowledge of U.S.D.A. compliance guidelines
    - Ability to accurately record data for yield testing

    Preferred Qualifications
    - Prior experience in a unionized manufacturing or food processing environment
    - Familiarity with product labeling and food safety compliance standards
    - Experience working in a fast-paced, temperature-controlled facility

    About the Role
    This position offers a structured training period followed by a transition to a regular 2nd shift schedule. It provides a clear path to permanent employment for qualified candidates who successfully complete the temporary period, in accordance with applicable union contract terms.
