    The College is looking for exceptional colleagues to join the MVCC community. We are currently seeking a Mathematics Tutor in our Learning Commons. The Math Tutor is responsible for carrying on all the activities associated with the Learning Commons Math Lab including tutoring of students in mathematics at all levels ranging from Basic Algebra to Calculus. This position helps students build confidence and improve academic performance through holistic support, active learning strategies, study skills development, facilitated group study, and individualized instruction.

    Key responsibilities for this position include:

    • Tutors students in a wide range of math courses;
    • Uses probing questions and supported inquiry to help students answer their own question;
    • Engages students in active learning practices;
    • Discusses course material to strengthen understanding and help students address knowledge gaps;
    • Assists students to develop effective study strategies;
    • Provides encouragement and motivation to support student retention and completion;
    • Maintains accurate records and monitor sign-in stations;
    • Refers students to instructors and specialized services such as counseling and advisement as appropriate;
    • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of the Learning Commons.

    The successful candidate must be a dedicated learner who is comfortable working with students with a range of academic skills and from a variety of backgrounds.


    Work Schedule:
    The work schedule for this position will be based on the needs of the department and the availability of the applicant.

    Hours per week: minimum of 20

    Qualifications:

    Required Qualifications:

    • Associate's degree or a minimum of 60 completed college credits in Mathematics or related field
    • Competence in the areas of Calculus<
