Summary & Qualifications:

Summary

The Full-Time Math Tutor provides high-quality academic support to a diverse student body, helping students master mathematical concepts, build confidence, and develop independent problem-solving skills. This role is pivotal in bridging classroom instruction and student success. The full-time tutor collaborates with math faculty, develops and participates in targeted workshops, and assists with the daily operations of the Tutoring Center. The ideal candidate will work directly with students through embedded tutoring in developmental math courses, lead instruction/support for summer math remediation programs, and serve as the primary liaison between academic support services and the Math Department faculty.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics Education or a related field

  • Demonstrated advanced proficiency through Calculus I and Introductory Statistics.

  • Two years of tutoring experience in math courses, high school or higher

Preferred:

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Master's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a related field

Essential Responsibilities

  • (Critical) Act as a primary liaison between the Tutoring, Math & Science Center and the mathematics department, as it relates to math courses and content

  • (Critical) Support faculty as primary source of course information (be professional but not the professor)

  • (Critical) Collaborate with student success staff to provide for summer math programming as part of the College Edge program

  • (Critical) Assist students with their question on content material

  • (Critical) Assist students in developing good study skills and habits

  • (Critical) Attend all training sessions

  • (Critical) Be prepared, present, and punctual for each session or class

  • (Critical) Be knowledgeable about academic and study aids available in the Tutoring Center and through success coaching

  • (Critical) Provide documentation of tutoring services to office to verify sessions and to monitor student progress

  • (Very Important) Inform coordinator of any problem situations

  • (Very Important) Keep accurate and valid records of sessions with students

  • (Very Important) Keep an accurate and validated record of your tutoring and work time and submit required documentation at the end of each pay period

  • (Critical) Adhere to the tutorial policies, which have been established in accordance with the college, federal and state guidelines

  • (Very Important) Assist with documentation for Perkins-qualified students

  • (Very Important) Other duties as assigned
