Maternity Worker

Assist with calving cows, provide labor assistance, revive newborn calves, feed colostrum within one hour, use esophageal feeder, dip navels, feed calves/heifers, maintain health records, administer treatments. Interact safely with animals, communicate with team, solve problems, follow safety practices, perform arithmetic and recordkeeping, work independently and as a team, and perform other reasonable assigned duties.

Primary Responsibilities

• Analyze data and interpret results to improve animal productivity and welfare.
• Collaborate with local farmers, veterinarians, agricultural extension agents, and management to apply research findings.
• Implement feeding programs, health protocols, and improved practices in feeding, housing, sanitation, parasite and disease control.
• Monitor animal growth, health indicators, environmental conditions, milk intake.
• Prepare technical reports, peer-reviewed publications, and presentations.
• Perform selective dry cow therapy; maintain bedding , select animals for treatment.

• Perform milking tasks including udder prep, hygiene, unit attachment, identifying abnormal milk and equipment issues.
• Administer injections, oral and IV treatments, restrain cows, observe health, identify illness/labor, contact veterinarians when appropriate.
• Maintain maternity areas, hutches, warm room cleanliness, assist down cows, push up feed.
• Interact safely with animals, communicate with team, solve problems, follow safety practices, perform arithmetic and recordkeeping, work independently and as a team, and perform other reasonable assigned duties.
• Assist with identifying, moving, and treating correctly sick cows that are found from visual observation or are found in compromised positions.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Animal Science or related field. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, willingness to learn, integrity, ability to lift calves, assist cows, and work flexible schedules.
