    Job Summary:

    The Campus Services Department is seeking a Materials Manager. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE),12-month, professional faculty position.

    Reporting to the Director of Campus Services, the Materials Manager oversees the materials management operation comprised of campus mail and shipping, recycling and surplus units. The managers has the responsibility to work with University departments to establish and manage contracts, to oversee the transfer, sale, or disposal of all University surplus property, and to set strategic direction to maintain a comprehensively sustainable waste management program with trash disposal as a last resort.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Forecasts, develops and implements materials management policies, activities and processes for surplus, recycling, small scale moving services, campus mail and shipping activities for the University.
    • Ensures effective management of resources utilizing knowledge of the market, benchmarking and other resources.
    • Research, plan, and implements long-range strategic plans and goals for the materials management unit in coordination with the Campus Services Director.
    • Ensures fiscal accountability through coordination and guidance in preparing the annual budgets for materials management unit. Evaluate fees and recommend appropriate updates to fees for services provided.
    • Authorizes expenditures and administers the Surplus Property, Recycling, Campus Mail and Shipping budgets. Ensures billings and payments are accurate and processed in a timely manner.
    • Advises supervisory staff in establishing goals, determine future projects, and develop student and customer outreach and engagement.
    • Collaborate with procurement, sustainability, facilities, IT, and other key units to align services with university goals.
    • Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with departments within the university and local community.

    Qualifications:

    Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations Management or related field. Experience managing mail and shipping operations, end-of lifecycle reallocation, sale, repurpose, and disposal of property and materials. Recent and progressive supervisory experience with multiple staff direct-reports.
    • Supervisory 3–5 years’ experience.
    • Warehouse Management 3–5 years’ experience
    • Demonstrated ability to work in a team setting and as a leader for a responsive and diverse set of professionals.
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently and resolve complex problems.
    • Excellent computer skills with experience in Microsoft Office Suite products.

    This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
     

    This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Experience:

    • Prior experience with self-funded/support operations.
    • Previous higher education, manufacturing, or commercial waste collection, disposal, and recycling experience.
    • Previous vendor service contract management experience.

    Skills:

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple competing priorities.
    • Proficiency in data analysis, reporting tools, and communication platforms.
    • Experience reviewing, reporting and tracking budgets.
    • Demonstrated ability to facilitate collaboration across diverse teams and constituents and build effective working relationships.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, project management software, enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, and HR and recruitment software.
    • Ability to travel to various locations as needed for conferences, meetings or other engagements.

    Working Conditions/Schedule:

    Warehouse environment with extreme temperature fluctuations.
    Large vehicles operated in congested areas and backing into loading areas.
    Offsite evaluations of vacant buildings and large equipment to determine value and appropriate means of disposition.
