The cell materials development team is looking for a skilled Materials Engineer to own test and validate materials designs and concepts for Teslas next generation cell design that are commensurate with its performance requirements and launch horizon, with an emphasis on delivering novel but feasible materials and designs over off-the-shelf and/or incremental improvements.
You will be working closely with mechanical and stack design engineers to develop solutions that optimize the nexus of materials and design.
Holistically own a range of inactive cell materials for Teslas next generation in-house cell design, identifying and evaluating both new and existing materials designs and components.
Develop and execute laboratory experiments, materials formulation, and characterization, and cell testing to inform performance, reliability, manufacturability, and value.
Work closely with the cell design team to develop materials solutions to unlock novel design pathways and strategies.
Manage relationships with external vendors, suppliers, and research partners to source, qualify, and implement cutting-edge materials technologies.
Requirements:
Degree or Equivalent Experience in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
Deep fundamental knowledge on materials science, electrochemistry, and energy storage devices.
Experience with battery cell development with a strong understanding of materials and design levers towards optimizing performance, cost, and manufacturability.
Propensity for direct hands-on materials formulation and characterization in the lab.
Experience with prismatic cells is a plus.
