JOB TITLE: Materials Characterization Lab Technician
LOCATION:Moorestown, NJ
PAY RATE: $35-50/hour

We are a national aerospace and defense staffing agency seeking highly qualified candidates for a position with a top-tier client.

Qualifying Questions:

  • Are you a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance?

Summary: 

  • Performs sample preparation including sectioning, mounting, grinding, and polishing of metal alloys, composites, and electronics assemblies for microstructural analysis.

  • Conducts metallographic acid etching as required.

  • Operates analytical tools to support Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS), Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), and Thermal Analysis platforms (DSC/TGA/DMA/TMA).

  • Conducts mechanical testing on metals, composites, elastomers, and other materials in accordance with ASTM standards and LM internal procedures.

  • Bonds strain gages as required.

  • Compiles raw data into technical presentations and records and communicates observations.

  • Safely installs test fixtures and sub-assemblies under test.

  • Performs routine calibration and preventative maintenance on materials characterization platforms, environmental chambers, and other lab infrastructure.

  • Constructs, troubleshoots, calibrates, adjusts, tests, diagnoses, and maintains equipment, components, devices, or systems.

  • Works from schematics, engineering drawings, and written or verbal instructions.

Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. Person (as defined by ITAR).

  • Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in a materials characterization or mechanical testing laboratory environment.

  • Preferred: Prior experience evaluating mechanical test results and operating mechanical load frames (Instron).

  • Preferred: Experience conducting failure analysis activity.

  • Preferred: Familiarity with aerospace or military specifications and industry standards (ASTM).

  • Preferred: Strong communication skills.

  • Ability to perform sample preparation including sectioning, mounting, grinding, polishing, and metallographic acid etching.

  • Ability to operate analytical tools including SEM, EDS, FTIR, and Thermal Analysis platforms.

  • Ability to conduct mechanical testing on metals, composites, elastomers, and other materials in accordance with ASTM standards.

  • Ability to perform routine calibration and preventative maintenance on materials characterization platforms and environmental chambers.
