Material Handling Supervisor

Overview / Summary

The Material Handling Supervisor is responsible for leading teams of hourly employees in material receiving and delivery activities that support daily production targets. This role oversees material handling operations, troubleshoots issues, allocates resources and manpower, supports plant throughput, and promotes lean manufacturing activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead teams of hourly employees in material receiving and delivery activities.
  • Support daily production and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
  • Allocate resources and manpower to resolve operational issues without impacting plant throughput.
  • Participate in and promote lean manufacturing activities.
  • Interact with bargaining and non-bargaining hourly employees, salaried employees, and executive leadership.
  • Manage manpower, including employee absenteeism, training, and lean manufacturing involvement.
  • Collaborate with union leadership to address team member concerns.
  • Monitor and replenish production lineside inventory stock levels.
  • Manage material handling equipment, including establishing safe operating procedures and arranging standard maintenance.
  • Complete daily reporting related to safety, quality, throughput performance, and inventory control.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Ability to work any shift and overtime as required.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite.
  • Public speaking skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, or a related field.
  • 18 months of experience in a manufacturing or supervisory role.
  • Previous experience working in a union environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of lean manufacturing.
