    Position Summary
    The Production Preparation & Setup Support Material Handler position is responsible for preparing materials, production lines, and supporting equipment for production. This position works closely with Production Coordinators, Die Setters, Tool Room, Maintenance, and Material Handlers to ensure that materials, tooling, equipment, and production-support items are available and properly positioned for production.
     
    The position requires the ability to read and understand Production Order (POP) orders, identify materials required for each production operation, safely move and position materials, support production line preparation, and assist Die Setters and other production personnel during the transition from setup to production. The position is also responsible for maintaining safe and orderly work practices and following applicable company procedures and SOPs.
     
    Primary Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
    · Become proficient in reading and understanding Production Order (POP) orders and identifying the materials required for each production operation.
    · Retrieve required materials from the designated material staging area and deliver them to the appropriate production location and prepare them for use and complete the issued material checklist.
    · Return unused materials from production to the designated staging area and coordinate with the Raw Material Handler for proper material handling and inventory control.
    · Load blanks, stacks of hand-fed material, components, and other required materials at production lines ready for operator use.
    · Load coil material onto production feed lines, remove shipping bands, and position the material at the feeder for the Die Setter to complete the setup.
    · Support production line preparation by positioning conveyors, tables, and other required line-support equipment after the Die Setter has completed setup and the line has been released for production.
    · Refill lubricant reservoirs and production lubrication sprays as needed during production to support continuous operation.
    · Coordinate with Die Setters and Tool Room personnel to move dies, tools, and related equipment between designated locations.
    · Maintain familiarity with the tool identification and tagging system used by the Tool Room and follow established requirements when moving tooling.
    · Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment safely and maintain required forklift certification.
    · Communicate proactively with Production Coordinators, Die Setters, Tool Room personnel, Maintenance, and Material Handlers regarding material, tooling, equipment, and production-support requirements.
    · Assist in identifying and communicating material or equipment issues that may affect production.
    · Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly work area.
    · Follow all applicable safety requirements, including safe forklift operation and safe material-handling practices.
    · Follow established company SOPs and procedures applicable to the position, including procedures for raw material movement, die setup, first and last piece approval, production execution, and production order completion.
    · Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
     
    Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:
    · Must be 18 years of age.
    · Must be capable of obtaining and maintaining forklift certification.
    · Must have the ability to read and understand Production Order (POP) documentation.
    · Must be able to identify and locate materials required for production operations.
    · Must have basic mechanical aptitude and an understanding of production equipment and processes.
    · Must understand the general purpose and sequence of die setup and production operations.
    · Must understand and follow the company's material movement, setup, first and last piece, production execution, and production order completion procedures.
    · Must be able to understand and follow the Tool Room's tool identification and tagging system.
    · Must have good verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with Production, Die Setters, Tool Room, Maintenance, and Material Handling personnel.
    · Must demonstrate good organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple production-support requirements.
    · Must be able to safely operate a forklift and maneuver material and equipment in a production environment.
    · Must be capable of safely moving materials, tooling, conveyors, tables, and other production-support equipment.
    · Must maintain awareness of personnel and equipment operating in the work area.
    · Must demonstrate a consistent commitment to safe work practices.
    · Must be able to work independently while recognizing when coordination with other departments is required.
    · Must be willing and able to learn and apply company production procedures and SOPs.
