    Description

    SUMMARY: Individuals in this position perform a variety of material handling duties via forklift and pallet jack by moving materials and parts to various departments throughout the plant.
     
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Operate material handling equipment including fork trucks, pallet jacks, and overhead cranes
    • Move product as dictated by the manufacturing system, daily work schedule, or associate's need/request
    • Ensure direct materials are available for manufacturing and assembly of orders
    • Unload and load materials onto trucks or other designated vehicles
    • Organize Receiving Department storeroom and assist stock pullers
    • Assist Shipping Department with assembling pallets for sales orders
    • Maintain scrap and wood hoppers
    • Other duties as assigned
    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  None
     
    QUALIFICATIONS: 
    • Organized to handle many small tasks in a day
    • Mechanical aptitude to operate small equipment
    • Ability to recognize and accurately handle various steel types, sizes, and gauges
    • Prior experience in a manufacturing, metal fabrication, or steel-processing environment preferred
    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
    • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
    • 2 years of experience in a manufacturing, warehouse, shipping/receiving, or material-handling environment preferred
    • Experience working with steel, sheet metal, fabricated components, or similar industrial materials strongly preferred
    • Powered industrial truck or forklift experience required, experience with standup lift a plus
    • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
    REQUIRED SKILLS:
    • Proficient in reading, writing, and communicating in English language
    • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, and unit conversions)
    • Ability to read a tape measure within 1/16”
    • Basic computer skills
    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms.  The employee will be seated in a forklift for up to 4 hours at a time and will be required to get off and on the unit many times in a daily shift. The employee is frequently required to talk or hear, including operation of a handheld radio. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. 
     
    WORK ENVIRONMENT:
    The work environment is an industrial metal fabrication shop with exposure to machinery, fumes, and airborne particles.  The noise level in the non-air-conditioned work environment is moderate.  All required PPE, including steel toe shoes, must be worn and a clean work environment must be maintained.
