    Material Handler I

    Position Summary

    The Material Handler I is responsible for the safe and efficient handling, movement, storage, shipping, receiving, and inventory of materials, parts, products, and supplies. This role supports daily manufacturing and facility operations while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, accuracy, and continuous improvement.

    Key Responsibilities:

    General Operations

    • Follow all health and safety procedures to protect yourself, coworkers, equipment, and manufacturing systems.
    • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including general housekeeping and waste removal.
    • Support safety, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Identify opportunities to improve processes, reduce waste and rework, and eliminate unnecessary activities.
    • Work collaboratively with team members to meet department and facility goals.
    • Assist with projects, special assignments, and other operational tasks as needed.
    • Participate in team activities and contribute to effective decision-making.

    Material Handling:

    • Load, unload, move, and transport materials using hand trucks, forklifts, electric dollies, elevators, power equipment, and other material-handling devices.
    • Safely stack, organize, and store materials, parts, products, and supplies.
    • Assist machine operators with moving heavy materials using manual or powered equipment, including hoists.
    • Transfer materials between departments and work areas as directed.
    • Pull materials and fill orders from designated storage locations and deliver them to the appropriate departments.
    • Inspect incoming materials and report shortages, damage, or discrepancies.
    • Open containers using appropriate hand tools and safely unpack materials.
    • Count, weigh, label, and record materials accurately.
    • Follow established safety procedures and material-handling practices at all times.
    • Understand and follow applicable ISO 9000 procedures related to Material Handler responsibilities.

    Shipping, Receiving & Inventory:

    • Receive incoming materials and prepare products and materials for shipment.
    • Unpack, unwrap, inspect, and organize finished products, raw materials, assemblies, parts, supplies, equipment, and other items.
    • Verify quantities, weights, identification, and general condition of received or shipped materials.
    • Accurately enter receiving, shipping, and inventory information into computer systems.
    • Process freight bills, packing slips, bills of lading, and other required shipping and receiving documentation.
    • Record shipping weights, charges, and other required information.
    • Route materials and merchandise to the appropriate destinations.
    • Maintain accurate inventory records and perform inventory counts as required.
    • Follow established shipping methods, transportation requirements, routing instructions, and schedules.

    Qualifications:

    • High school diploma or GED required.
    • 0–2 years of experience in material handling, warehouse operations, manufacturing, shipping/receiving, or a related field preferred.
    • Ability to safely lift, move, and handle materials as required by the position.
    • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and established safety procedures.
    • Basic computer skills and ability to accurately enter and retrieve information.
    • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
    • Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a manufacturing or warehouse environment.
