    Material Handler

    Job Title:

    Material Handler

    Position Summary

    Responsible for the safe transport of materials and aircraft parts using appropriate equipment and proper handling techniques. Operating industrial trucks, forklifts, or hand trucks performing equipment safety checks, and adhering to safety guidelines. Accurately follow work orders, load and unload materials securely, and maintain quality standards. Additional duties include housekeeping tasks and collaboration with team members. Typically reports to a supervisor.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Material Handling: Safely transport materials from storage or work sites to designated areas using appropriate material handling equipment.

    Ensure proper handling of materials to prevent damage and maintain their integrity during transport.

    Organize and prioritize the movement of materials to ensure efficient workflow and minimal disruption to production schedules.

    • Operate Equipment: Operate industrial trucks, forklifts, or electric hoists to assist in loading or moving materials and products.

    Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment to ensure safety and functionality.

    Follow all safety guidelines and operational procedures while using equipment to prevent accidents and ensure smooth operations.

    • Read Work Orders: Carefully read work orders or follow oral instructions to ascertain the specific materials or containers to be moved.

    Verify the details in the work orders, including part numbers, parts, quantities, and locations, to ensure accuracy and documentation is in order.

    Communicate with supervisors or lead to clarify any uncertainties or discrepancies in the work orders.

    • Load and Unload Materials: Load and unload materials onto or from vehicles, ensuring proper strapping, bracing, or padding is used to prevent shifting or damage during transit.

    Inspect materials before loading to identify any visible damages and report them to the supervisor.

    Ensure the safe and efficient handling of materials during loading and unloading processes.

    • Service Requisitions: Promptly pick up and deliver service requisitions for parts and materials required to ship the same day.

    Coordinate with various departments to ensure timely and accurate fulfillment of service requisitions.

    Maintain records of service requisitions and ensure proper documentation for tracking and inventory purposes.

    • Quality Assurance: Scrutinize every aspect of the job to ensure adherence to quality standards and operational procedures.

    Report any improper operations, faulty equipment, defective materials, and unusual conditions to the Supervisor or Lead promptly.

    Participate in quality improvement initiatives and provide feedback to enhance processes and product quality.

    • Housekeeping: Perform housekeeping chores as required by the department to maintain a clean and organized work environment.

    Regularly clean and organize work areas, storage spaces, and equipment.

    Dispose of waste materials properly and follow recycling procedures where applicable.

    • Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Position Qualifications

    Education and Experience

    • Requires a high school diploma or GED and one year of experience in a manufacturing environment.
    • Ability to obtain Piper Industrial Truck Certification

    Physical Demands

    • Demonstrates physical and functional ability to perform and accomplish tasks. Ability to lift and carry up to 35 lbs.

    Mental Demands

    • General understanding of ERP computer system.
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, to include Excel proficiency, is required.
    • Requires knowledge and experience in establishing Kanban, JIT or Supplier Managed Inventory programs.
    • General understanding of drawings, specification, and units of measure.

    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to both office and plant environments. May be exposed to odors, chemical agents, dust, fumes, gases, sharp objects, hazardous or moving equipment, wet slippery floors, and extremes in temperature and humidity.
    • Interacts regularly with various staff and employees, and occasionally with vendors, suppliers, community members and regulatory agency representatives.
    • Travel and overtime are required when necessary.
