Job Description
Load and unload chemical products and raw materials at the rail car and truck loading/unloading areas and perform ancillary activities (including routine and non-routine maintenance of equipment) in a safe, effective and efficient manner. Package products into drums, totes, and pails, including appropriate labeling.
Key Activities and Responsibilities
Material Handling (70%)
- Perform regular safety inspections of tank farm equipment.
- Monitor the temperature of acrylic acid in railcars.
- Ensure quality of finished product by inspecting and washing railcars and tanker trucks per plant procedures.
- Ship and receive finished products and raw materials, including moving/transferring chemicals and chemical products to and from rail cars and tanker trucks at both the rail car and truck loading/unloading areas.
- Unload and load packaged raw materials and finished products from box trucks.
- Package products into drums, totes, and pails, including appropriate labeling.
- Ship hazardous and non-hazardous waste per the plant procedure.
- Obtain quality control samples of raw materials and finished products for quality control laboratory analysis.
- Operate pallet jacks and fork-lift trucks.
- Retain a basic knowledge of chemistry and chemical hazards and apply this knowledge in daily work activities.
- Clearly communicate relevant information and/or instructions to production personnel.
- Perform basic arithmetic operations.
- Evaluate storm water before discharging, including measuring pH and clarity. Discharge storm water per plant procedures.
Data Entry (10 15%)
- Ensure shipping and receiving documentation is in compliance with plant procedures.
- Perform good receipts using SAP system.
- Work with automated equipment (i.e. computer controlled).
- Keep accurate monitoring reports/logs, including daily wastewater flow, and documentation of specific loading/unloading events.
Safety & Other Duties (10 15%)
- Understand the hazards and risks associated with handling various chemicals and chemical products.
- Effectively carry out verbal and written instructions.
- Make independent judgments concerning assigned tasks.
- Discern situations where supervisory/management input is advisable.
- Safely wear and/or use required personal protective equipment.
- Follow the direction of the shift leaders/supervisors.
- Understand plant environmental health and safety regulations and comply with all applicable laws and regulatory requirements.
- Housekeeping and other activities as assigned.
Required Education/Qualifications/Work Experience
- High school Diploma or equivalent and minimum of three years' shipping and receiving experience in a chemical process operation.
- Basic computer literacy, including email and data entry is required. SAP is preferred.
- Experience with automated processing systems is preferred.
- Ability (certification) to operate a forklift is required.
- Maintain training required to ship hazardous and dangerous goods internationally and domestically.
