Material Handler
Location: Bay Point, CA 94565
Duration: 6-Month Contract
Schedule: 4 days on / 3 days off either Sunday Wednesday or Wednesday Saturday
Day Shift: 6:00 AM 4:30 PM $23.00/hour
Night Shift: 4:00 PM 2:30 AM $24.50/hour
Overview
The Material Handler supports warehouse operations by safely receiving, storing, retrieving, and distributing raw materials and finished goods. This position requires strong attention to inventory accuracy, safety procedures, documentation, and proper material handling within a chemical manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Receive, store, retrieve, and distribute raw materials and finished goods.
- Pull the correct materials, batch numbers, and quantities for scheduled process orders.
- Verify inventory quantities and storage locations and update records as needed.
- Communicate material shortages verbally and in writing to Warehouse and Planning teams.
- Follow warehouse supervisor instructions and maintain production schedules with minimal supervision.
- Operate warehouse equipment safely and maintain working knowledge of department equipment.
- Follow proper procedures for material storage, handling, and hazardous waste disposal.
- Complete accurate and timely documentation, recording, and reporting.
- Use SAP to support warehouse and inventory-related functions.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area throughout the shift.
- Identify opportunities to improve warehouse procedures and customer service.
- Assist with training employees on routine warehouse tasks as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to obtain forklift certification within the first 30 days of employment.
- Experience working in a fast-paced warehouse, shipping, or similar environment.
- Ability to perform basic mathematics, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Ability to calculate, verify, audit, and accurately record information and data.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and safety.
- Ability to follow direction from multiple individuals and work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize changing workloads, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to retain training and job-related information.
- Strong attendance and reliability.
- Ability to work the designated shift and overtime as needed.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to perform regular physical labor throughout the shift.
- Ability to regularly lift up to 65 pounds.
- Ability to safely manipulate packaged materials weighing up to 650 pounds using appropriate material-handling methods and equipment.
- Ability to work in a chemical manufacturing environment.
