The Opportunity
Coastal Pipeline, Inc. is seeking an experienced Master Underground Pipelayer & Wet Utility Specialist to lead main-line pipe installations, laser grade setups, and utility structures across Broward and Palm Beach Counties.
In this central hands-on field technical role, you will take operational command over pipe laying in the ditch—installing pressure water mains, gravity sanitary sewers, storm drainage culverts, and fire suppression lines. Working with an established, family-owned utility contractor serving South Florida since 1964, you will set invert grades with pipe lasers, perform manhole masonry benching, and ensure full compliance with municipal building specs and OSHA trench safety rules. If you bring 5 or more years of verifiable pipe laying experience, an active OSHA 10 card, and strong plan reading capabilities, Coastal Pipeline, Inc. provides top-tier hourly pay, steady year-round work, and a supportive crew environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Main-Line Pipe Installation: Lay, align, joint, and bed water distribution mains (DIP), sanitary sewer gravity lines (PVC C900/SDR 26), storm drainage pipes (RCP/HDPE), and fire service lines to exact line and grade.
- Pipe Laser & Grade Operations: Set up and operate pipe lasers, optical levels, grade rods, and target sweeps to establish precise ditch invert elevations and slopes.
- Structure Setting & Masonry Finishes: Set precast concrete manholes, catch basins, and junction boxes; execute invert masonry benching, mortar joints, and grade ring adjustments.
- Blueprint & Survey Mark Interpretation: Read, navigate, and build directly from civil engineering prints, plan profiles, cut sheets, survey hubs, offset stakes, and utility markings.
- Trench Safety & OSHA Stewardship: Enforce strict OSHA trench safety guidelines—setting up trench shields/boxes, hydraulic shoring, ladder access, and spoil pile setbacks in active excavations.
- Tooling & Field Maintenance: Maintain line lasers, cut-off saws, mechanical tamping rams, and rigging slings in clean, operational condition.
- Crew Collaboration & Production Pace: Partner closely with excavator operators, hillmen, and crew foremen to maintain daily installation velocity and safety standards.
