Home to Scope Arena, Chrysler Hall, Attucks Theatre, Wells Theatre, Harrison Opera House, Harbor Park, and Open Air Events, SevenVenues provides entertainment programming that connects Hampton Roads residents, visitors, and tourists to Norfolk's rich and diverse arts and entertainment community. SevenVenues is also responsible for each venues maintenance, repair, management, and operation.

SevenVenues is seeking a dynamic, organized, and proactive Marketing & Public Relations Assistant. This role is perfect for a junior professional looking to build a career in live entertainment. Working closely with the Marketing & PR Manager, you will provide administrative, digital, and on-site support to help execute marketing and promotional campaigns, maintain media relations, and deliver exceptional event experiences across our venues.

Departmental Hiring Salary Range: $49,152 - $56,525

Essential Functions

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Marketing & Promotions

  • Identify and cultivate promotional opportunities for Broadway in Norfolk performances, regional runs, and concert tours.
  • Drive community outreach by securing promotional footprints at select high-profile external events. Manage all on-site operations, including setup and event execution.
  • Coordinate with promoters, marketing, and the box office to execute flash sales and holiday deals.
  • Gather conversion metrics, track expenses, and solicit backup invoices for marketing settlements.
  • Assist the marketing team with building, proofing, and scheduling high-volume email blasts and SMS text notifications via Hive.
  • Assist the marketing team with updating and maintaining website content to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Attend monthly external marketing and PR meetings.

Asset Management

  • Organize and maintain production asset libraries (photos, b-roll, logos, copy points) for scheduled performances.
  • Maintain digital and static signage schedules for concourse screens and marquees and coordinate the production and installation of tour posters across multiple venues.

Press & Media Relations

  • Review and vet incoming editorial and broadcast press requests.
  • Coordinate media interviews with tour publicists and serve as a day-of-show escort for talent.
  • Track media coverage and compile wrap reports for promoters and internal stakeholders.
  • Coordinate venue press nights, including managing RSVPs and night of show media check-ins.
  • Provide on-site support for select performances and special events, including evenings and weekends. Serve as an escort to VIPs, broadcast crews, and house photographers.
  • Draft press releases and distribute weekly event listings to local media outlets.
  • Maintain and update a highly targeted media contact database.

Digital & Social Media

  • Assist the marketing team with capturing and editing content for various digital and social media platforms.
  • Assist the marketing team with social media influencer management, including vetting and invoice reconciliation.
  • Assist the marketing team in analyzing paid social media metrics and digital ad campaign results.
  • Support efforts in building online reviews.

Perform all other departmental duties as assigned.

Education/Experience

Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelors degree or equivalent.

One year of experience in Public Relations.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, or related field.
  • Two to three years of professional marketing and/or PR experience in a demanding, fast-paced setting, preferably in performing arts, entertainment, or a related field.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and Canva is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of social media platforms and digital marketing best practices.
  • Highly skilled in creating content for social media platforms, including TikTok. Basic video editing skills for short-form content preferred. Candidate must provide examples.
  • Experience with email marketing tools and website content management systems (like carbonhouse) preferred.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a strong eye for detail. Candidate must provide writing samples.
  • Ability to travel the Hampton Roads area for event-related deliveries and marketing events.
  • Ability to work a hybrid schedule, with the flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays for on-site event support as required by the performance schedule.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Excels at building and maintaining relationships.
  • Superb organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to operate under pressure and tight deadlines.

  • Special project/grant employees are generally eligible for the same benefits of regular full-time employees; however, retirement, life insurance and participation in health plans vary depending upon funding and authorization.

  • Temporary/seasonal and part-time employees are generally only eligible for employer provided parking and access to membership in credit union.

  • Retirement

If you are hired October 5, 2010, or after to a position with City of Norfolk Retirement System benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.

If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.

  • The Tuition Assistance Program is established to encourage employees toward continued self-development and education. Permanent full-time and permanent part-time classified, unclassified permanent, full-time special projects, and constitutional employees who have completed six months continuous service will be eligible to apply. The applicant's school of enrollment must be an accredited institution.
