Position Summary

This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

The Marketing Automation Specialist will play a key role in supporting and optimizing our Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC) operations across OneCarolina. Reporting to the Associate Director of Marketing Automation, this position supports the administration of SFMC, providing technical expertise, user training, and operational support to ensure the effective use of marketing automation. By expanding our team, we aim to enhance automation, increase personalization, and drive digital engagement across OneCarolina schools and units.

With a growing volume of email communications, automated journeys, and data-driven marketing strategies, this role will focus on improving user adoption of SFMC s advanced features, troubleshooting system issues, developing documentation, and expanding training initiatives. Additionally, many schools and units require technical support to implement marketing automation solutions. The Marketing Automation Specialist will help bridge this gap by assisting with journey configuration, reusable assets, data management, and other SFMC projects, ensuring automated communications can be deployed effectively and at scale.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Computer Information Technology, computer Technology Integration, Networking Technology, or related area and one year of experience in the information technology field related to the position's role; or
  • Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year experience in the information technology field related to the position's role; or
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, math or engineering or related technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Journey level required an additional one year of experience

Management Preferences

  • Experience supporting marketing automation platforms, preferably Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC), including Journey Builder, Automation Studio, Content Builder, and Contact Builder.
  • Strong technical knowledge of email marketing best practices, audience segmentation, personalization, and familiarity with SQL and HTML/CSS.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot technical issues, develop documentation, deliver user training, and provide exceptional customer support.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to build relationships and communicate technical concepts to users with varying levels of expertise.
