    Summary

    Martinsville High School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our marching band program as an assistant. This role is crucial in supporting the band director and ensuring a positive and productive environment for our student musicians. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for music education, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and parents.

    Responsibilities

    • Assist the band director in planning and organizing rehearsals, performances, and competitions.
    • Support the instruction of band members in their musical development, including technique, performance skills, and ensemble playing.
    • Help coordinate logistics for travel to events, including transportation, accommodations, and schedules.
    • Maintain and distribute musical scores, equipment, and uniforms as needed.
    • Foster a positive and inclusive environment that encourages student participation and growth.
    • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school administration regarding band activities and expectations.
    • Assist in the recruitment and retention of band members through outreach and engagement initiatives.
    • Participate in staff meetings and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in music education.
    • Contribute to the overall vision and goals of the marching band program.

    Requirements

    • High school diploma or equivalent; a degree in music education or a related field is preferred.
    • Previous experience in a marching band or music ensemble, either as a participant or instructor.
    • Strong musical skills, including proficiency in one or more instruments.
    • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of students and staff.
    • Strong leadership qualities and a passion for mentoring young musicians.
    • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends during the marching band season.
    • First aid and CPR certification is a plus.

    Job Summary and Requirements: Provide leadership and guidance for a school club or extracurricular organization, ensuring a safe, supportive, and engaging environment for student participation. Plan, organize, and oversee club activities, meetings, and events; encourage student involvement and leadership development; manage materials, equipment, and budgets as needed; and maintain accurate records of participation and accomplishments. Foster positive relationships with students, families, and school staff, and collaborate with administration to align club activities with school policies and goals. The position requires the ability to remain emotionally stable, exercise sound judgment, and maintain professional composure while managing multiple responsibilities and responding appropriately to student needs and unexpected situations. The role also requires the ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods; move throughout the school; and lift or carry materials or equipment weighing 20 pounds or more as needed.

    Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent, basic computer or communication skills (if relevant), ability to work with students, experience in schools or similar settings.

    Compensation and Benefits: Stipend based on the Master Teacher Contract.
