The Manufacturing Tooling Engineer is responsible for the design, development, implementation, and continuous improvement of tooling, fixtures, and manufacturing processes. This role plays a critical part in ensuring efficient production, high-quality output, and cost-effective operations within a manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop tooling, fixtures, jigs, and gauges to support production processes
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to optimize manufacturability and efficiency
  • Support new product launches by developing and validating tooling solutions
  • Analyze and improve existing tooling to increase throughput, reduce downtime, and enhance product quality
  • Troubleshoot tooling and process issues on the production floor
  • Manage tooling lifecycle including maintenance, repair, and replacement strategies
  • Work with external vendors and suppliers on tooling fabrication and modifications
  • Implement lean manufacturing principles, including continuous improvement and waste reduction initiatives
  • Develop and maintain documentation such as tooling drawings, specifications, and work instructions
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and company policies

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in tooling design or manufacturing engineering (varies by level)
  • Proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar)
  • Strong understanding of machining, fabrication, and assembly processes
  • Experience with GD&T and blueprint reading
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in CNC machining, injection molding, stamping, or casting environments
  • Lean Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or higher)
  • Experience with automation and process optimization
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems
