Job Title: Manufacturing TechnicianJob Description

Join a dynamic Microbiology Division as a Manufacturing Technician, where you support the production of agar-based media used in critical scientific and healthcare applications. In this role, you work in a manufacturing environment handling equipment, materials, and quality checks to ensure products meet strict standards. This position offers a strong entry point into the scientific and GMP manufacturing field, with hands-on experience in kit production, large-scale manufacturing, and exposure to regulated processes.

Responsibilities

  • Efficiently and safely operate assigned manufacturing machinery in a laboratory/cleanroom environment.
  • Perform basic machine maintenance and immediately report malfunctioning equipment to the Supervisor or Lead.
  • Set up and adjust machines to run different product sizes according to production requirements.
  • Obtain correct materials for production needs from the warehouse or staging area.
  • Organize production flow to ensure materials are available, estimate line progress, and schedule breaks in alignment with the production time schedule and safety guidelines.
  • Load product and monitor volumes to support the manufacturing process of agars and related media.
  • Document work accurately and review personal work for quality and compliance with established procedures.
  • Monitor products for defects and assist with the inventory process as needed.
  • Accurately dispense required additives to media and perform the proper techniques to achieve correct pH balance.
  • Investigate and help remedy possible production failures or process deviations.
  • Follow all written procedures, including SOPs and device history records (DHRs), and report any discrepancies to the Area Supervisor.
  • Perform all work activities in a safe manner and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Report property damage and safety hazards immediately to appropriate personnel such as the Supervisor, Human Resources, Safety Specialist, or Senior Management.
  • Complete production assignments in a timely manner and in accordance with departmental schedules.
  • Sign off on DHRs in the proper locations and complete all required documentation in accordance with SOPs.
  • Support general production tasks such as filling, inventory handling, and basic math-related measurements as needed.

Essential Skills

  • Experience or strong interest in manufacturing, production, or related operational roles.
  • Ability to follow Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) principles in a production environment.
  • Ability to comprehend and communicate clearly in English, both in writing and verbally.
  • Ability to perform basic math to support measurements, calculations, and documentation.
  • Capability to lift up to 50 lbs and push or pull wheeled kettles weighing up to approximately 600 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for sustained periods of time, up to approximately 10 hours per day.
  • Ability to see and distinguish colors to support quality checks and media preparation.
  • Comfort working with agar, media, and pH-related tasks in a laboratory or manufacturing setting.
  • Attention to detail for accurate documentation, quality checks, and adherence to procedures.
  • Commitment to safety practices, including consistent use of required PPE and reporting of hazards.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Interest in or exposure to microbiology, laboratory work, or scientific manufacturing.
  • Willingness to learn and be trained in kit production, large-scale manufacturing, and GMP processes.
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in a science-related field is welcomed but not required.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment while meeting schedules and quality standards.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage materials, workflow, and documentation.
  • Team-oriented mindset with the ability to communicate effectively with peers and supervisors.

Work Environment

This role is based in a laboratory/cleanroom manufacturing environment focused on the production of agar and media products. You work primarily on 2nd shift from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., standing for extended periods while operating production machinery and handling materials. The environment follows GMP and safety standards, requiring the use of appropriate personal protective equipment. Work involves handling wheeled kettles and other production equipment, performing filling and inventory tasks, and maintaining a clean, organized, and compliant workspace. The setting offers exposure to modern manufacturing processes and technologies within a structured, process-driven operation, with opportunities for training and career advancement in large-scale scientific manufacturing.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.09 - $21.09/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
