We’re seeking a Manufacturing Production Supervisor who thrives in a dynamic production environment and is ready to lead with accountability, adaptability, and a commitment to excellence.
Position Overview
The Manufacturing Production Supervisor will oversee a cell of manual, CNC, and secondary operations within a fast-paced, high-mix, small-batch production environment. This leadership role is hands-on and highly collaborative, requiring strong communication, planning, and coaching skills to drive productivity, support cross-departmental initiatives, and ensure operational readiness each day.
This is an on-site, full-time position based at our Marlborough, MA headquarters and reports directly to the Operations Manager. The role includes production planning, employee development, and daily accountability for safety, quality, and output.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain a safety-first mindset and reinforce safe behaviors across the team
- Set daily and weekly production schedules in collaboration with the Operations Manager
- Monitor cell performance and productivity; track progress using Excel-based reporting
- Lead and support a team of machinists and operators to meet quality and delivery goals
- Ensure accurate and timely movement of parts throughout the cell
- Hold team members accountable to documented processes and inspection protocols
- Keep the work area clean, organized, and stocked with prepped material
- Use SAP Business One, Crystal Reports, Excel, Access, and other systems for scheduling, inventory transactions, and discrepancy tracking
- Support ERP accuracy by entering data and addressing inventory-related issues
- Communicate clearly with a diverse team where English may be a second language
- Rapidly adjust plans in response to changing customer needs or internal priorities
- Participate in hiring, onboarding, cross-training, and leading annual reviews
- Ensure that at least two employees are trained for every operation in the cell
- Collaborate with engineering, HR, and management on continuous improvement and operational upgrades
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent applicable experience
- Previous experience supervising or managing employees in a manufacturing setting
- Comfortable with ERP systems (especially SAP Business One) and Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Access)
- Able to set production schedules and make decisions in a small to mid-sized manufacturing environment
- Strong communication, organizational, and prioritization skills
- Experience entering and managing inventory transactions
- Solid math skills, including fractions, decimals, imperial/metric conversions
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in manufacturing small metal components
- Background as a CNC setup machinist or operator
- Familiarity with OSHA safety requirements
- Experience in an ISO 9001:2008 or 9001:2015 certified facility
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
- Working knowledge of Haas and/or Fanuc controls

About Company
Eighty years is a long time to be in business, and at Ruland we are proud to have reached that milestone in 2017. It all began in 1937 when 20 year old Fred F. Ruland bought two screw machines at a junkyard for $50 each and merged the parts into a working unit. He ran the machine during the day in a loft of a textile mill at 40 Pleasant Street in Watertown, Massachusetts, which he rented for $20 per month. At night he worked at the Waltham Watch Company to pay the bills.
Soon thereafter, World War II loomed and the business became a full time job. By the time of Pearl Harbor in late 1941, there were 20 employees on three shifts. Military work included spring rings for .50 caliber machine guns and clamp-style shaft collars for bombsights and guidance instruments.
Fred F. Ruland found tremendous satisfaction working to close tolerances and providing value added design work. This led to a reputation for innovation and precision along with many proprietary processes and patents.
After the war, all government work ceased and Ruland Manufacturing turned to civilian products, such as tire pumps, in an effort to survive while other "war babies" became business failures.
Survive the Company did, but the emphasis was soon back to precision products. One such specialty was high pressure valves used in aerospace applications. This led to a proud moment when a Ruland valve pressurized the spacesuit of the first American to walk in space.
In the mid-1970s the decision was made to devote all of our expertise to a product line, shaft collars and couplings. We had been making these products for nearly 40 years on a custom basis and had already developed a number of proprietary processes to ensure that they met application requirements. Soon, Ruland was known for having the best looking, best performing shaft collars and rigid couplings available.
Innovation and careful manufacturing continued thereafter and more proprietary processes such as special surface treatments, anti-vibration coupling hardware, and precision honing were developed to improve product appearance and performance. Product line expansion and a commitment to same day delivery led to a reputation for availability and service.
Our commitment to the values which brought 80 years of excellence continues. In the past several years we have expanded our line of metric shaft collars and added metric rigid couplings, step bore rigid couplings, and motion control couplings. All of these products are thoughtfully designed and carefully made in the tradition that makes us proud.
