Manufacturing Process Optimization Technician

Compensation: $32–$36 per hour DOE | Employment Type: Direct Hire | Start: Immediate

Location: Grand Rapids, MI

A day in this role

You start your morning reviewing production schedules and latest quality notes. A work center flags a throughput issue—within minutes you’re on the floor, analyzing data, reviewing specs and prints, and collaborating with operators. By midday, you’ve led a quick Kaizen huddle to cut waste, updated a maintenance history record, and validated a tweak to a labor standard. The afternoon wraps with a cost/defect analysis, a check-in with engineering on a process design question, and concise updates to stakeholders so improvements stick.

What you’ll tackle

  • Drive process-improvement initiatives that boost efficiency, reduce scrap, and lower defect rates.
  • Provide technical and engineering support to manufacturing work centers.
  • Capture and maintain equipment history, maintenance activity, production capacity, and CI project data.
  • Help develop and assess manufacturing methods, labor-utilization standards, and cost/scrap systems.
  • Participate in lean events; implement countermeasures and sustain the gains.
  • Support quality-control goals and corrective actions to enhance reliability and reduce operating costs.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally on Kaizen efforts—identify opportunities, implement solutions, track and report results.
  • Review drawings, specs, work orders, and documentation to confirm methods and procedures.
  • Evaluate technical requirements and cost factors tied to process and product design objectives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Schedule options

  • 1st Shift: 5:00 AM – 3:30 PM
  • 2nd Shift: 3:30 PM – 4:00 AM (Overtime as needed)

What you bring

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree, relevant engineering/technical coursework, or equivalent experience.
  • Self-directed, accountable, and ownership-driven.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes, production techniques, CAD, and blueprint reading.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; comfortable with computers in a plant setting.
