Description

Job Title: Material Handler
Location: Mansfield, OH(100% Onsite)
Duration: 3 Months Contract
Pay rate: $20.21 per hour on W2
Shift: 6am - 2:30am. Some days may be 7:30 - 4pm

Job Overview:

The Shipper / Crater is responsible for the custom fabrication of protective shipping structures and the safe tactical handling of large-scale industrial actuators and heavy equipment. This role operates specialized woodworking machinery and overhead material-handling equipment to secure high-value products according to engineering, regulatory, and logistics schedules. Serving as a foundational role, it requires a strong blend of physical precision, safety compliance, and the ability to interpret complex shipping and rigging data.

Job Responsibilities

  • Measure, design, and construct heavy-duty custom crates, skids, and pallets tailored to the unique dimensions and weight distributions of large-scale industrial actuators.
  • Safely and effectively operate a variety of industrial power tools, including circular saws, table saws, drills, and planers, maximizing material yield and minimizing lumber waste.
  • Orchestrate the safe rigging, lifting, and positioning of oversized, heavy units using overhead cranes, hoists, and forklifts to prevent product damage and ensure workplace safety.
  • Read, analyze, and execute operations based on daily shipping schedules, material bills, and specialized domestic or international shipping instructions.
  • Inspect finished crates and securing mechanisms to ensure compliance and transit safety requirements.
  • Monitor shipping material stock levels and maintain a clean, organized, and safe industrial work area.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a manufacturing, construction, carpentry, or industrial warehousing environment.
  • Proven ability to read blueprints, layout drawings, and standard measuring instruments to execute precise lumber cuts.
  • Ability to successfully obtain and maintain internal forklift and overhead crane operation certifications within 90 days of hire.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted, stand for extended periods, and safely navigate an active manufacturing floor.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience operating overhead bridge cranes and performing heavy rigging operations.
  • Existing forklift certification or multi-directional lift experience.
  • Background in industrial carpentry, framing, or custom crating for freight.
  • Demonstrated track record of upward mobility or strong potential to transition into advanced manufacturing career paths.

Must Haves

  • High School Diploma/GED and at least 1 year of manufacturing, construction, carpentry, or industrial warehouse experience.
  • Experience reading blueprints/layout drawings and using measuring tools for precise cuts and fabrication.
  • Hands-on experience with power tools such as circular/table saws, drills, and planers.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and work safely in an industrial environment.
  • Ability to obtain forklift and overhead crane certifications within 90 days and willingness to operate heavy equipment.
