The Manufacturing Engineer supports the development, production, and continuous improvement of cable and electronic assembly products. This role develops and maintains manufacturing documentation and processes in accordance with AS9100C, J STD 001, MIL STD 2042, and IPC WHMA A 620 Class 3 requirements.
Working collaboratively with Production, Project Engineering, Quality, and other cross functional teams, the Manufacturing Engineer evaluates new and legacy products to determine efficient production methods, work center requirements, equipment needs, assembly processes, and testing requirements. The role reviews product specifications and develops customized work instructions, manufacturing documentation, and standardized assembly methods to support consistent, high-quality production.
The Manufacturing Engineer works closely with management, engineering, production, inspection, test, and quality teams, as well as customers when appropriate, to support successful product launches, resolve manufacturing challenges, improve processes, and enhance product quality and efficiency through lean manufacturing principles.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties as assigned.
- Oversee the activities associated with the planning, development, implementation and maintenance of manufacturing methods, processes, and operations for new and existing products working closely with Senior Manufacturing Engineer and Project Engineering.
- Perform engineering design reviews to ready new products for manufacturing and production.
- Oversee the development of copper, coax, and fiber cable and electronic assembly manufacturing build instructions with step-by-step assembly routers.
- When required, perform physical build of cable assemblies for work instruction development and/or manufacturing improvement initiatives.
- Utilize existing part inventory system (P21), production order system, build records and quality management system to evaluate build success and generate improvement strategies.
- Continuously improve legacy work instruction packages to streamline customized builds.
- Troubleshoot assembly problems, test failures, and tooling issues acting in supporting engineering role for the production floor
- Develop manufacturing training plans which include enhancing build competency, lean manufacturing, IPC/WHMA-A-620 Class 3, AS9100D and ISO 9001:2008 quality standards to ensure production and assembly activities are optimally executed.
- Support the development of tooling, molding, fixturing, and harness boards and validate through measurement and test.
- Maintain and improve product quality by completing product, company, and system compliance audits.
- Collaborate with members of management to develop competitive products, optimum production techniques, and successful training methods to improve quality.
