    About the opportunity
    Our client, an established manufacturer of material handling and loading dock equipment, is seeking a Product Development Engineer to lead design and development for its pit dock product line. This role covers the full development cycle, from concept and calculations through prototyping, validation, and product launch, working closely with manufacturing, sales, and cross-functional teams.

    Responsibilities

    • Carry out design and development (R&D) activities for pit dock products
    • Design new products, product enhancements, and special engineered solutions
    • Produce detailed engineering designs, calculations, and specifications, including Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
    • Support and guide prototype builds, testing, and validation, capturing design and manufacturing lessons learned into the final product
    • Work with Manufacturing Engineering to ensure designs are manufacturable, cost-effective, and scalable
    • Manage and drive design changes to improve manufacturability
    • Support product standardization and platform optimization
    • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives based on field feedback and warranty data
    • Ensure designs meet applicable industry standards, safety regulations, and performance requirements
    • Create and maintain Bills of Material (BOMs) in the company's MRP/ERP system
    • Assist Sales Engineering with approval drawings and cost estimates
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on product launches and updates
    • Track project time and progress using project management software
    • Follow all health and safety requirements, including PPE use, hazard reporting, and required safety training, and model safe practices for junior team members

    Required skills

    • Degree or equivalent in Engineering or Technical Sciences
    • Experience in an engineering environment working on multi-disciplinary projects and teams
    • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, qualification requirements, and quality control techniques
    • Sound engineering judgment and risk-based decision making
    • Detail-oriented, with a consistent record of highly accurate work and a continuous improvement mindset
    • Ability to analyze data and generate reports
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt in a fast-paced, changing environment
    • Strong computer skills, including advanced MS Office
    • Excellent English verbal and written communication, with the ability to work effectively with Sales, Manufacturing, and customers
    • Logical approach to problem solving

    Assets

    • 5+ years of engineering experience, ideally in material handling equipment or loading dock systems
    • 3+ years of experience with SolidWorks
    • P.Eng designation
    • Technical background in hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical components
    • Exposure to dock lifts, dock levelers, and vehicle restraints
    • Knowledge of configuration and data management within an ISO 9001 certified quality system
    • Membership in an information management association
