Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer

Job Description

The Manufacturing Engineer will play a critical role in optimizing assembly operations by driving line balancing initiatives, improving labor efficiency, and ensuring manufacturing processes are capable, repeatable, and cost-effective.

  • Primarily desk-based (80%), successful candidates will enjoy spending time on the production floor ( 20%) working directly with operators and supervisors to identify opportunities for process improvements, troubleshoot production issues.
  • Individuals who are eager to be on the floor more frequently and build strong relationships with production teams will thrive in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct time studies and analyze production data.
  • Support root cause investigations related to customer concerns and quality escapes.
  • Develop recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Support quoting activities for new business opportunities.
  • Evaluate process changes required to accommodate new products or modifications to existing manufacturing operations.
  • Develop and maintain PFMEAs, Control Plans, and other critical manufacturing documentation.
  • Provide assembly and manufacturability feedback to customers.
  • Partner with quality, production, and engineering teams to address process concerns.
  • Drive corrective actions and serve as a key problem solver on the production line.
  • Present process changes and improvement initiatives to groups within a union manufacturing environment.
  • Establish trust with production teams and gather operator feedback.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor"s degree in engineering
  • 2+ years of experience in assembly
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and AutoCAD
  • Experience with PFMEA, Control Plan documentation
  • Line balancing or efficiency gains with assembly experience
  • Strong communication and change management skills

"Nice to have" Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with stamping tools.
  • MODAPTS and time studies experience is highly preferred.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lansing, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $48.08/hr.
