    Manufacturing Engineer - Brushless Motors - Los Angeles area

    Our Client in the Los Angeles area is a leading provider of Innovative Motion Control Motor and other Electro-Mechanical Actuation Devices for the aerospace industry. Due to expansion, they are currently seeking an Aerospace Manufacturing Engineer for a contract position that has the option to convert to a direct role with the company.

    Manufacturing Engineering is focused on the design, development, and manufacture of specialty fluid and motion control products for demanding aerospace and defense applications.

    POSITION DETAILS:

    • Position Summary Manufacturing Engineer will act under the general supervision of the Manufacturing Engineering Manager or Motors Operations Lead on multiple assignments of complex nature and broad scope.
    • Be a part of a dynamic team to design and develop manufacturing processes for new and legacy product lines. This includes but not limited to process improvements, tooling, manufacturing instructions and problem solving.
    • Principal Activities Ensures successful completion of the assigned tasks within the budgeted time and cost constraints.
    • Participates in defining manufacturing/engineering approaches, in planning and scheduling work.
    • Provides support in the design, fabrication, modification and evaluation of manufacturing operations.
    • Provides input to plans, process specifications and procedures, production aids and assembly fixtures, MRP support studies, factory cost work standards development, and the like.
    • Compiles and evaluates test and production data, prepares technical analysis, recommends manufacturing methods and processes required to meet design objectives on new or improved products and/or processes.
    • Provides production floor and assembly support in technical matters relating to assembly drawing interpretation, engineering change notices, rework, manufacturing difficulties and specifications.
    • Continually improve manufacturing methods/systems and process/ product improvements to optimize product performance and reduce manufacturing costs.
    • Identify and evaluate opportunities for improvement and make specific recommendations for adoption.
    • Perform cost analyses to reduce or optimize product costs.
    • Support new product development or existing product line extensions/modifications by ensuring new products or manufacturing processes are designed to facilitate ease of manufacturing and to produce quality, cost effective products with optimized yields. Ensures that the quality policy and quality system is understood, implemented, and maintained at all levels of the organization.
    • Determine specific requirements of manufacturing operation in order to specify equipment, fixturing, and process parameters.
    • Collaborate on design with suppliers to fulfill equipment and fixturing requirements.
    • Develop plans to evaluate process repeatability and stability through equipment qualification and process validation.
    • Applies six sigma methodologies as appropriate.
    • Performs other related duties as required.

    CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Experience in designing manufacturing aides and tooling.
    • CAD/Drafting experience (GD&T).
    • Working knowledge for mechanical and electrical assemblies.
    • Experience in technical writing (work instructions, processes, etc.).
    • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
    • Excellent communication skills.
    • Positive attitude and ability to collaborate with both Engineering and Production.

    Software skills required to be successful in this role include:

    MS Office, CAD, LabVIEW, and/or statistics software.

    Knowledgeable in lean manufacturing principles and six sigma methodology.

    Proficient in financial and statistical analysis.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Brushless DC motor assembly and test experience Knowledge of coil winding technologies.
    • Knowledge of Electronics and PLC's.
    • Previous experience with aviation or medical equipment qualification processes desirable.
    • Green Belt, Black Belt or Lean certification a plus.
    • Experience in leadership role Core Competencies.
    • Understanding of overall materials flow and other functions linked to the Design, Supply Chain and manufacturing.
    • Strong project management skills, including the ability to prioritize, balance, and manage multiple efforts with strong results/goal orientation.
    • Solid analytical skills and solution-driven thinking; collects and researches data; uses intuition and experience to complement data.
    • Makes good decisions based upon a mixture of analysis, wisdom, experience and judgment.

    Education Preferred:

    BS in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Thermal) or equivalent.

    Minimum 5 year's manufacturing engineering experience required.
