Role: Manual Machining Specialist — Large Vacuum Pump Overhaul

Where: Moody, AL (On-site) | Hours: Mon–Fri, 6:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

What you will do

• Set up and run large Vertical & Horizontal Lathes to repair and overhaul large Liquid Ring Vacuum Pumps and compressors.
• Use prints to determine critical dimensions; verify work with micrometers, vernier calipers, dial indicators, and other precision instruments.
• Hold demanding tolerances—down to 0.0005" when specified.
• Select cutters and establish speeds/feeds to deliver the right surface finish for various metals.
• Operate forklifts and overhead cranes safely; follow all EH&S and QMS procedures.
• Rig, lift, disassemble, reassemble, repair, and rebuild heavy pump components.
• Pitch in with overtime during the week and, at times, on weekends to meet customer needs.

Must-haves

• Proven knowledge of machine setup, controls, and capabilities (you’ll be asked to demonstrate this).
• 3+ years as a machinist or machine operator.
• 2+ years reading and interpreting blueprints.
• 1+ year on king-style boring mills or VTLs.
• Comfort using depth/bore/height gauges, feeler gauges, micrometers, calipers, deburring tools, die grinders, drill presses, and overhead lifting gear.

How you work

• Juggle multiple priorities and hit deadlines.
• Convert between metric and US units with ease.
• Troubleshoot using structured methods like the 5 Whys.
• Communicate clearly in one-on-one and small group settings with supervisors, customers, clients, and teammates.

Nice-to-haves

• HS Diploma or GED (preferred); additional education/certifications are a plus.
• Manual machining on VTLs, boring mills, and horizontal lathes—Cincinnati and King brands especially valued.
• Experience with manual machine setups, tool changes, and in-process offset adjustments.
