From day one, you’ll be an integral part of a focused team where you can make a real impact. You’ll be surrounded by an open, collaborative culture that embraces diversity, recognition, professional development and, most importantly, you.

Are you ready to make your impact?

    About the Role

FTI Consulting's Corporate Positioning and Insights (CPI&I) practice — part of our broader Strategic Communications segment — is seeking a talented and versatile Managing Director of Digital Public Affairs to join our senior leadership team. This is a high-impact opportunity for a seasoned digital public affairs professional with 15+ years of experience who is ready to shape strategy at the highest level, grow a meaningful book of business, and help define the future of digital advocacy consulting.

In this role, you will lead the development and execution of integrated digital strategies that protect organizational reputation, advance policy objectives, and engage critical stakeholders — including government bodies, grassroots coalitions, C-suite executives, and media. You will directly manage client accounts, lead dedicated teams, oversee budgets, and serve as a trusted senior advisor in rapid-response and crisis communications scenarios. Critically, you will also play a central role in driving new business development, expanding CPI&I's digital public affairs capabilities, and contributing to the growth of FTI's Strategic Communications practice across segments.

This role is based in Washington, D.C. and may require periodic travel to support client engagements, industry events, and cross-office collaboration.

    What You'll Do

    • Develop and execute comprehensive, multi-channel digital public affairs strategies aligned with macro-level policy priorities and client business objectives.

    • Identify and implement AI-driven solutions where applicable to increase campaign efficiency, enhance targeting, and improve performance outcomes. Maintain fluency with FTI's proprietary intelligence and monitoring solutions, leveraging firm-based tools to enhance situational awareness and accelerate response in high-stakes scenarios.

    • Actively originate and pursue new client opportunities, contributing to practice revenue goals and helping expand CPI&I's digital public affairs footprint.

    • Serve as a senior thought leader within CPI&I and across FTI's Strategic Communications segment, educating colleagues on emerging digital trends, platform developments, and best practices.

    •  Direct and mentor an internal team of digital specialists, fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture. Manage external vendor and agency relationships to ensure strategic alignment, quality delivery, and accountability against client objectives.

    • Implement advanced social listening, data analytics, and performance measurement systems to track campaign ROI, surface actionable insights, and deliver clear, evidence-based reporting to executive leadership and clients. Champion a data-first culture across the team.

    • Oversee the campaign budgets with rigour, ensuring optimal allocation of resources across paid media, technology platforms, and personnel in alignment with client and practice priorities.

    • Contribute to FTI-published white papers, bylined articles, and industry conference participation to build the firm's external profile in digital public affairs and your own.

    • Collaborate across FTI's broader segments — including Economic Consulting, Forensics & Litigation, and other Strategic Communications practices — to identify and develop integrated client solutions.

What You’ll Need to be Successful

    Basic Qualifications

    • Candidates must bring a minimum of 15 years in leadership roles directing high-performing digital or advocacy teams, with demonstrated ability to build team capability, manage performance, and sustain a culture of excellence under the demands of a fast-moving consulting environment.

    • Technical expertise must be substantive and current. Candidates are expected to possess deep, working knowledge of paid digital advertising ecosystems — including Meta, Google, LinkedIn, and programmatic platforms — as well as social listening and intelligence tools such as Brandwatch and Meltwater, and digital advocacy software including Phone2Action and Quorum.

    • Candidates should be able to speak with authority about how the digital landscape has evolved, the role of AI,  and how they have adapted solutions accordingly. This includes how AI can assist  content development, audience targeting, sentiment analysis, and campaign optimization. We are looking for practitioners who have begun integrating these tools into their professional practice and can speak to both their utility and their limitations in a public affairs context. As AI continues to reshape the speed, scale, and sophistication of digital advocacy, FTI expects its senior leaders to be at the forefront of that change.

    • Exceptional written communication skills, with a proven track record of distilling complex regulatory or policy jargon into compelling digital narratives. This role requires the ability to translate complex regulatory, legislative, and policy subject matter into compelling, accessible digital narratives — across formats, audiences, and channels. Candidates should be able to demonstrate a body of work that reflects this capability at a senior level.

    • Bachelor’s degree in Public Affairs, Political Science, Communications, Journalism, or a related field (Master's preferred).
