    The Opportunity

The Roux Institute at Northeastern University represents one of the most ambitious and innovative investments in the future of talent, innovation, and economic transformation in higher education today. Founded through a bold vision to accelerate the convergence of education, research, entrepreneurship, and industry, the Roux Institute was established as a new model for how universities can partner with business, government, entrepreneurs, and communities to drive economic and societal impact. Created through the visionary leadership and generosity of David and Barbara Roux, together with a transformational investment from the Harold Alfond Foundation, the Institute reflects a shared commitment to Maine's future and Northeastern University's global ambitions.

Located in Portland, Maine, and deeply connected to Northeastern's global university system, the Institute brings together education, research, entrepreneurship, and industry to create pathways for talent, accelerate innovation, launch new ventures, and strengthen communities. Through its interconnected focus on talent training, enterprise solutions, and start-up incubation, the Roux Institute serves as both a catalyst for regional growth and a globally connected platform for opportunity and impact.

The Managing Director of the Roux Institute will serve as a key leader within Northeastern University's global university system, responsible for advancing the Institute's growth, influence, and impact. Working at the intersection of higher education, innovation, and economic development, the Managing Director will lead strategic partnerships, external engagement, and organizational strategy while helping position the Roux Institute as a globally recognized hub for talent and innovation.

The successful candidate will be a highly credible and entrepreneurial leader with a demonstrated ability to build partnerships, lead through complexity, and create meaningful impact. The next Managing Director will bring strategic vision, strong business acumen, and exceptional relationship-building skills, along with the ability to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders. This leader will be energized by opportunity, comfortable navigating a dynamic environment, and motivated by the chance to help shape the next chapter of the Roux Institute.

Reporting directly to Mary Ludden, Senior Vice President for Global Network and Strategic Initiatives, the Managing Director will serve as the senior administrative leader for the Roux Institute and a visible ambassador for both the Institute and Northeastern University. This leader will collaborate closely with academic and administrative leaders across Northeastern's global network while cultivating relationships with business leaders, policymakers, philanthropists, entrepreneurs, and community stakeholders. The Managing Director will have the opportunity to expand the Institute's global influence, strengthen its market position, create new opportunities for growth and partnership, and position the Roux Institute as a model for how globally connected universities can drive meaningful economic and societal change.
