Company Overview:

Our client is a fast-growing, faith-driven Christian Financial Services firm dedicated to serving churches, nonprofit organizations, and impact-focused companies across the nation. With a strong commitment to excellence, stewardship, and mission alignment, they provide outsourced financial leadership, bookkeeping, payroll, and operational support to some of the most influential ministries and cause-driven enterprises.

As they scale to support more complex organizations, they are seeking an experienced, visionary Managing Director of Accounting and Bookkeeping to architect and lead their financial services operations into the next season of growth.

Job Summary:

The Managing Director of Bookkeeping and Accounting is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company’s bookkeeping, accounting, payroll, spend management, and bill pay functions. This role is not only operational but also strategic—tasked with building scalable systems, leading high-performing teams, and ensuring financial excellence for large, multi-campus churches and nonprofit clients.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong mix of technical accounting expertise, process improvement acumen, and servant leadership. You will be a key contributor to the executive team, helping shape the company’s financial infrastructure, growth strategy, and client service excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Executive Leadership & Strategy

    • Serve as the executive leader over the Bookkeeping and Accounting divisions, contributing to cross-functional leadership and company-wide decision-making.

    • Define and execute the strategic roadmap for financial operations in alignment with organizational growth, scalability, and client success.

  • Team Development & Oversight

    • Recruit, lead, and mentor department heads and team leads across bookkeeping, payroll, bill pay, and accounting operations.

    • Create performance development pathways and succession plans for staff to ensure capacity and capability match future demand.

  • Operational & Process Excellence

    • Drive process innovation and automation across financial systems to maximize efficiency, accuracy, and compliance with GAAP standards.

    • Oversee the implementation and optimization of accounting software and tech stack (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, Bill.com, Gusto, etc.).

  • Client Engagement & Advisory

    • Serve as a strategic financial advisor to church and nonprofit clients, helping them align their financial operations with their mission and growth plans.

    • Build trusted relationships with senior church leaders, boards, and financial stakeholders, offering clarity, reporting, and long-range budgeting guidance.

  • Resource Management & KPI Tracking

    • Analyze capacity utilization, labor metrics, and forecast resourcing needs to ensure operational effectiveness.

    • Regularly report on department KPIs and operational health to the executive team, identifying areas for growth and risk mitigation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (CPA preferred but not required).

  • 5+ years of experience in financial leadership, including 3+ years at a director or senior manager level.

  • 3+ years of Church financial experience.

  • Demonstrated success managing high-performing financial teams and large client portfolios (preferably multi-campus churches or nonprofits).

  • Deep understanding of GAAP principles, cash flow management, and month-end/quarter-end close processes.

  • Proficiency with QuickBooks Online, Bill.com, Gusto, and Microsoft Excel.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a passion for developing people and aligning financial systems with ministry goals.

  • A personal faith in Christ and a heart for supporting the local church and nonprofit missions.

Company Culture & Core Values:
