PURPOSE

The purpose of this classification, under general supervision, is to provide leadership in long- range planning and budgeting, hire, train, and supervise staff at the Florida Tennis Center. Employees in this classification also provide administration and coordination of the facility with tenant, rentals, tournaments, members, leagues, and special events. Performs related work as required.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, & EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in Recreation Administration, Business Administration, or closely related field supplemented by at minimum 5 years previous work experience in public recreation facility management, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and tennis experience.

Tennis Professional Certification by USPTA and USPTR, and certification as a Stringer by the USRSA, preferred.

JOB DESCRIPTION

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Manages the Florida Tennis Center 24-court tennis complex.

Plans the annual calendar along with the budget.

Marketing of the facility, promoting programs, membership, and overall usage and events.

Cooperates with USTA Tennis to meet the requirements of the USTA Lease Agreement under the direction of the Leisure Services Director who administers the contract.

Implements and makes recommendations for standard operating procedures, emergency planning, rules, and rates for the center.

Ability to develop sponsor and vendor relations.

Ability to supervise center personnel.

Develop and contribute to a Community Tennis Association.

Website enhancement for tennis facility updates.

Capable and knowledgeable of clay court maintenance standard procedures.

Oversee pro shop purchases, expenditures and staffing.

Oversee capital expenditures and facility improvements and work cooperatively with special Projects Manager and Property Maintenance for maintenance and capital needs.

Performs research projects for Leisure Service Director, as directed.

Works cooperatively with the Athletic Supervisor to program Derbyshire and City Island Tennis Centers, including lesson development.

Physical Ability

Tasks involve the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects, equipment and materials (20 to 50 pounds) related to clay court maintenance.

Knowledge of Job

Has considerable knowledge of the methods, policies and procedures of the City of Daytona Beach as such pertain to the performance of the essential duties of the Manager Tennis Center. Has considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of providing coordination, program planning, scheduling and management of a tennis facility, to include the provisions of tennis lessons in a group or individual context. Has considerable knowledge of the laws, ordinances, standards, and regulations pertaining to the essential duties and responsibilities of the position. Has considerable knowledge of the organization of the Department and of related departments and agencies. Clearly understands the occupational hazards and safety precautions required to perform the essential functions of the work. Has considerable knowledge of terminology and related professional languages used within the Department as such pertain to work responsibilities. Knows how to maintain cooperative and effective relationships with intra- and inter-departmental personnel, as well as any external entities with which position interacts.
